Use anything that has a JASO certification or says "wet clutch compatible". Viscoscity really depends on your climate. Personally I prefer a synthetic blend, best value in my opinion. Just know that all blends or semi-synthetics are not created equal. The cheap ones generally have a very low synthetic content. Maxima and bel-ray are well known good-quality oils in the industry.

Agreed. Good advise. Never go cheap with fluids and filters and use fluids made for the application that exceeds manufacturer's requirements where possible. I use Castrol Power RS 10/40 mostly because it is a trusted brand and is made for high RPM racing gas motorcycle engines with shared-sump applications...and very compatible with wet clutches. It, like any other high-grade oil, isn't cheap...but consider the cost of rebuilding an engine these days and it becomes justified.

My service guy said they spoke with CFMOTO about oil, and synthetics. They said CFMOTO told them syn was too slippery for the wet clutch, and they were told yamalube 10-40 was a good alternative, and approved by CFMOTO warranty wise. All the other 15w-40 SG (as recommended in manual) I found was either syn, or diesel motor oil which didn't maention anything about wet clutch compatibility. The owner of this shop, Birds of Prey Motorsports, http://www.birdsofpreymotorsports.com/ said he is on the CFMOTO advisory board for CFM.

There isn't an "advisory board" for cfmoto and synthetic isn't too "slippery" for a wet clutch. Certain synthetics, yes.... (like automotive oils for example)

If you see the verbage "meets or exceeds JASO MA" for example and it does not have the little certification box, it isn't actually certified. The oil manufacturers is simply claiming it meets or exceeds those specs. Same with API certifications, unless it has the API "donut", it was never certified.

Well, yah there is, maybe my terminology was incorrect, Its the Advisory "Council", made up of some of the US dealers. Here they are.

I think they just call that a dealer meeting... that all dealers can go to :-)

What? You see exactly what they call it, The advisory council, with specific members, who's purpose is to advise CFM of dealer issues and concerns. I'm not trying to have a debate here, just passing along information heard and learned like everyone else. Right or wrong, no biggie, I'm just here to learn, and value everyone's knowledge and experience, peace and enjoy!

It was pretty convenient for this dealer to tell me this, it gave me the opportunity to be heard or maybe get some info back to them on some irritating fairly minor issues I had with a brand new purchase, such as tail gate latches missing nuts and bolts flopping loose, missing muffler support bolts and nuts, loose, sticking funky door latches, and power steering that shuts off when turning right and won't reset until the machine is restarted and the ECU is reset. Hopefully he will relay to them that these little detail issues and somewhat of a lack of attention to detail irritates customers.

You know, as long as CFM continues to listen and actually correct issues brought up during these quarterly (or however often they are) dealer meetings, I'm happy. :)
