Loud snapping noise
« on: March 22, 2023, 04:12:50 PM »
I have a UForce 800. I am getting a very loud popping/snapping noise coming from somewhere around the center of the engine area between the seats. With the noise the utv does have a little jolt to it.
This appears to happen shortly after driving forwards after it has been sitting. I would say it happens within about withing the first 100 yards. Once the noise happens, it does not seem to happen again until after I have parked it and driven again.

I thought it might have been the U Joints or the shaft, but after I looked them over there appears to be nothing noticeably wrong with them.

I had some thoughts. Maybe it could be that it is trying to go into park.
Maybe the four wheel drive it trying to kick in or out. However, that is too loud of a noise for that.
This is a load noise and is making me very nervous, any advice or help would be appreciated.

If it were mine, knowing how loose the splines are on my carrier bearing...and how cheap the u-joints are, I would pull the front driveline and really inspect it..and while out I would take it for a quick run to see if it still did it. I would also check the CV joints. And sense you have it down, check the shifter alignment.

I was wondering if it could be the shifter alignment. I thought it might be trying to switch back to neutral or low gear, but I don't know how to check that. I guess I would just make sure it is in the middle of the two and not towards one side.
I have it up on jack stands now with the skid plate off it.
When you say take the front driveline out. I am assuming you are referring to the front drive shaft, is that correct?
How easy is it to take the front drive shaft off?

Correct. I haven't seen a UForce's but the Zs just has flanges front and rear and carrier tiedown points (Bolts).
