Horn/Light switch blowing fuse.
« on: November 27, 2020, 08:21:30 AM »
So as Murphy predicted some years ago, my first ever problem kicked in a few weeks AFTER my 1-year warranty.
I keep blowing the headlight/horn/dashboard fuse when I turn on the lights.  I only have 35 hours on it.
I don't have much experience working on DC electrical but I'm generally handy.

Has anyone else had this happen?
Any ideas why on what to check?

Thanks. -Joe

D/C and A/C load limiters work the same way. If the load amps exceeds the limiter, either a fuse or breaker, it trips or blows. There can be a short at or after the switch, extra things like more lights tied into the circuit, An internal short in the switch itself from water intrusion or in some cases a spiking from a poor or bad ground. I would start with the switch as many have found they are not water proof and do get water in them. Then check any and all connectors and bulb sockets as they too are not always water proof. In your travels inspect the harness for anywhere it may have been damaged from heat, sticks or rodents.

Thanks for the tips NMKawierider.
I ended up taking the blinker/light/horn switch apart and broke it.  Yeah!
I dont use the blinkers or horn so Ill try to wire to light to always be on for now. Probably burn the whole thing to the ground in the process.

Might be better to just take it in.
