headlamps fog
« on: October 23, 2017, 11:34:48 AM »
Anyone else have this issue with the headlamps fogging up?  on almost every run?
first flagged within 2 weeks of ownership last year and documented several times in emails to the dealership and to CFMOTO Canada.

In April of 2016 CFMoto wrote back to me and stated the following:

"thank you for being a CFMOTO owner. The best thing to do in this case will be to remove the head lights and let them dry in a dry place. When there is no longer fog in them, do a silicone type joint between the lens and the back of the light. You can have it done also by your CFMOTO dealer, if it happen again you can have them change and it will be cover under warranty within 6 months of your purchase date.  Thank you and have a nice day. "

the local dealership had my SXS for 3 weeks this month.  one of the things they checked were the lights for fogging up and surprise no fogging.
the very next day we attended a 170 km run and drove through 3 to 4 puddles no deeper than a foot at most.

We didn't even get water on the floor inside to speak of.
About 1/2 way on the run we stopped and I took a headlight fogged photo.
Paid to have it tested and they find nothing.  I get it first run out.

When I sent the dealership pics today the dealership tells me that the owner "has discussed with CF-Moto several times about a replacement set (just in case). They are unwilling to provide a replacement set unless we can show how they are leaking, which has been the problem all along. We simply can’t get them to leak here. The only point of entry for water seems to be the vent hose which, of course, would mean that the light is over its water limit."

Where the hell do these vent tubes end?
Are they like a foot off the ground?
Do they sit over the engine that when it get water on it and turns water to steam the tubes suck it into the headlamps?

Seriously would I not have to be sitting nipple deep in water to submerge the head lamps and that would affect my primary air breather, along with everything around me?  and for how long would they have to be submerged?
i don't mind sitting on water with my wife but it better be a bubble bath or the hot tub and not some ice cold mud puddle.

There has been a lot of cases of headlamps fogging. I had it happen a couple times. If your headlamp vent tubes are tied near the radiator I believe the heat there is causing some of it, I rerouted mine more towards the cab away from the radiator. I also has this issue in my truck when I bought it but it only happened a couple times then went away. My thought on that was it sat for quite a while without the headlamps ever being turned on to heat and dissipate the condensation inside the lamp.  If your rig is fairly new run it with the headlamps always on for a while and see if it gradually gets better, may take time to burn off the residual condensation inside the lamp, I doubt it actually leaks at all.

Mine still do, dealer replaced the lights (BOTH) and still the new ones fog. Said they would only replace the first set. Sooooo pulled the tubes away from the rad, still fog. Next step is to put a "T" between them and run it into the cab area.
Another thought was to add something like the cylinder looking fish filter stone so that they mad still breathe but may stop moisture from entering the lamps.
Seems to be due to the area, those that live in a dryer climate aren't experiencing this issue.
Annoying but not overly concerned because of all the extra LED's I have installed.

Yeah two things happen. 1- the lights generate heat which warms the air inside the housing and when they get doused with water or snow, that air inside cools and contracts which pulls in air through the tubes. If that air has moisture or humidity , it condenses. 2-There is more of it when the radiator gets hit by water or snow and steam blasts out the back side so moving the tubes helps...but doesn't stop it. The real thing to do is stop them from heating up in the first place. Either replace the bulbs with something that doesn't make heat,.. or leave them off and use your other LEDs in those situations.

My new UForce has the same issue: fog in the housing. I am gonna do the old fashion method: I am gonna drill a little hole in the housing at its deepest point. Water/Condens can get out. I did that with all my ATV's; they all where a little bit foggy. I never drive trough deep Water so that was never an issue. And that in our modern time........
Well, you always have to make your hone modifications, even in 2017....
