Coolant leak and idle issues
« on: August 05, 2020, 10:12:55 AM »
Hey guys, I'm having a few issues with my 2018 U Force 800 with 1170 kms on it. First issue is the idling. Sometimes it idles good at 1250-1350 Rpm's and other times it will go as high as 3000-3500. It's all over the place. I cleaned the throttle body (wasn't dirty ) and I've also installed a new iac valve , neither of which fixed the issue.Second issue is I've now noticed a coolant leak from the weep tube on water pump, it's a constant drip with machine running. The tube  was in a u shape not straight down so I corrected that. I read on this forum that sometimes if you replace the coolant with new it stops the leak. Any suggestions on how to repair any of these issues would be greatly appreciated. Also does anyone know where I could find a service manual for this machine that I could possibly download? Sorry for the long read, I just wanted to get as much info out there as possible.

Thanks

PMed you with a link to the service manual. Not sure why the idle issues..was going to suggest the iac but you replaced it. Check that the throttle is returning properly and the adjustment leaves some slack in the cable. Maybe test the airtemp/mass airflow sensor and clean it. The coolant leak is the mechanical seal so many have had issues with. If changing the coolant doesn't help try adding water pump lubricant as it helps fill-in the rough surfaces of the two seal parts. If that doesn't stop it you will have to replace that seal. And I suggest the shaft as well because many were found to not be true.

I had a nightmare hi idle ZForce 800, same motor configuration as the UF. It became progressively worse & was heat related. Heat is not necessarily a symptom to the same problem, it was a symptoms of the one I was working on.

If you have covered the basic's try this test. You will have remove enough of the air intake so you can have good access to Throttle Body. You need to identify the air bleed for IAC, while it is idling place your finger over the air bleed. You should be able to crudely control the idle speed & stall the motor. That will confirm you are not chasing a mechanical condition such as an air leak. As well the ECU will have the range to control the idle speed.

Let us know how this test goes.

The coolant drip sounds like the ceramic seal as NMK suggested. When the Chinese copied this motor from Can Am, they copied the problem Can Am had back around 2006. The difference between these manufactures is one will fix the problem back in 2007. The other continues on today...dripping  ::)
ZF 800 LX Trail, stock for now.......not for long.

The idle is good for now. I cleaned the throttle body, iac valve and mass air flow sensor. So far so good. As for the coolant leak, I flushed out the old coolant and replaced with new which made little difference with the leak. Still a constant drip. So I then added a bottle of water pump lube as NMK mentioned and that slowed that drip down a lot. I will just have to keep an eye on it.
