I was looking to adjust the preload on the rear shocks to soften them a bit. What is shown in the manual seems counterintuitive to me. Please look at the attachment and tell me if this is correct or a case of incorrect translation between languages. If it is correct, please explain it in a way easily understood.

Other then the lock nut...which there isn't any far as I know on cam adjustable shocks, the instructions are correct. Preload refers to how much the spring is compressed to start with. Moving the cam up the steps to compress the spring..or put more pressure on the spring- toward the B position, is "adding" preload...and the reverse is true. Stepping back down releaves the pressure or preload on the spring. Just look at the fixed button or pin on the shock body, the part the sets in the step or notch. See the distance between it and the bottom of the spring. The more there is, the more preload there is and the stiffer it will be. Hope that helps.
