UFORCE 500HO 2016 YEAR BREAK PROBLEMS
« on: April 13, 2018, 11:52:02 AM »
I have a uforce 500 HO 2016 year model 1200KM. On my first check up with the dealer I had them bleed the breaks and this worked for a short time. I took it back to the dealer and they bleed the brakes again this got me through hunting season. I parked the side by side in the garage for the winter. Today I took it for a short ride and found out no breaks again and there was no fluid shown on the floor in the garage. Is the pedal set to tight? What can the problem be? My dealer is 4 hour round trip away  and this is a pain in the neck.

I found several things wrong with my brakes that had an effect of operation.

1. Air in the system.
2. All brake calipers either had one or both slide adjusters seized. No lube was used.
3. The factory pads were far too hard to create enough friction with the system's ratios..IMO they are incorrect.
4. The peddle rod was set too tightly and return hole is closed until the master's plunger is in it's fully open position. Must have some play.

Thanks for the info. How tight should the peddle rod be set?

Loose enough so there is some free play on the peddle and no pressure on the rod at all.

I fought this very issue with 2016 UFORCE 500's.......I would go ??? My last attempt was to pressure bleed, possibly marginally better. The real culprit is the Master Cylinder itself, I was told by a very reliable source whose is a member here. The window of the MC, where you inspect the fluid level allows air into the MC.

This is why you bleed this system, get a reasonable pedal only to have it disappear over a period of time.....I spent hours working on this. Including what NWK is advising you.

The danger, yes! As you drive & use the unit pressure will build in the brake system to the point the brakes will not release & drag.

Master Cylinder was updated last year, best that you change it.

Looking at the parts list at https://www.alpha-sports.com/cfmoto_parts.htm?q=cfmoto-parts
there has been a complete redesign of the UFORCE braking system for 2018. It would be cost prohibitive IMHO to replace all the parts on years 2016 / 2017 to match what is now available and probably more reliable as well.

2016 / 2017

What are you talking about? The Master cylinder was updated last year to correct the problem the OP is experiencing. Updating the MC is not replacing the brake system  ;)

As you can see CFMOTO did a complete re-work of the brake system in 2018. This includes new calipers, pads, lines, etc.
This is system matched all around and would be cautious in mixing parts from the 2018 model with a 2016.

So what you are saying is there is in fact a new updated master cylinder available specific to and compatible to model year 2016 / 2017?
Does it have a new part number?
What guarantee would I have if I ordered from alpha-sports that it is in fact the new part?
Is there a service bulletin on this?
I wonder if this is covered under my 2 year warranty and would get the new part as my brakes have been horrible from day 1.

Yes, this will be the third time.

Does it have a new part number?

I don't believe so, part was updated.

What guarantee would I have if I ordered from alpha-sports that it is in fact the new part?

Ask them

Is there a service bulletin on this?

No

I wonder if this is covered under my 2 year warranty and would get the new part as my brakes have been horrible from day 1.

If you suffer from the symptoms described they should.

I was having the same problem with my 2016. As NMKawierider mentioned, the brake rod was set to tight. Loosening the the rod fixed the premature wearing of the brakes. I've got 2400 kms on this set of brakes and they are a cheap set, $12.50 per wheel from mfg supply. However, it didn't fix having no pedal a short time after bleeding. I must have bled them 50 times, they'd be okay for a few runs and then no pedal again.

My son acciidently overfilled the MC and I noticed that there was fluid leaking from under the master cylinder cover when the brakes were pumped as if the gasket was bad. I put RTV between the gasket and the cover and the gasket and the master cylinder. I haven't had a problem with the brakes since and that was last summer. I think the gasket was bad the whole time.
