Stuck Differential Lock Lever
« on: January 19, 2022, 06:52:58 AM »
Good Morning All. I apologize if this isn't the right board to post this but I have a 2017 UForce 500. I am able to press the red button to go from 2 wheel to 4 wheel drive. That works fine. But the lever that allows differential lock is seized up. I never used it and now it is unmovable.

I tried some oil in the area. Any idea what the problem is? If I try to force it, I'm afraid I'll snap the lever off. Is it simply a lever on a pivot point like a pin? Any advice or insight greatly appreciated. Thank you!

NO OIL as it can work in and coat the switch contacts. Mine on my 2015 Z did the same thing except it locked when covering the 2/4wd button. I was able to spray enough electrical contact cleaner into while gently working it to free it up. I continued to work it with more spray to wear it in enough that the detent was a bit more smooth. Now once a year a give it a shot of contact cleaner just for GP. Good luck.

Thank you NMKawierider! I will keep working on it then. I wish I knew what was seized up on it. Do you off hand know if this lever is simply a cover on a pivot point or is there some unseen attachment to this lever that is frozen inside? Again, thanks so much for the advice.

Not sure what's inside but its some kind of spring-loaded detent. All it does is make you unlock the diff before you kick it back to 2wd...and visa-versa, have it in 4wd before locking the diff. Yamaha uses one very much like it..slightly different wiring color coding but they never have this problem. I though about replacing mine with one if I ever broke the lever off.
