Power of the 500 Uforce
« on: December 30, 2019, 01:33:50 PM »
Getting ready to buy a new 2019 Uforce.  Will be using it for mountain hunting, camping  and limited trail riding. I'm retired and not interested in speed, only power to pull hills. What do you think, do I really need a 8oo cc?

You will never regret having more power than you need.

You will only regret not having the power when you need it.

I found the fuel economy to actually be better with the bigger engine that doesn't work as hard, saying nothing about the improved throttle response.

I'm assuming you will be loading it up with people and equipment. Torque and HP will be important considerations under loads.

Drive both before you buy, just to make sure.

Agreed 100%. Although the 500 will be..."adequate".. most of the time..there will always be the times when you wish there was just a little more. That will also be the case with the 800s or 1000s but..it's probably far less as often. :)  One of my dad's sayings was " It's always better to have too much...then not enough." Or "It's better to have and not need...then to need.. and not have."

Depending on what cargo you haul and it's weight, the 500 will be enough especially since you will likely be operating it with transmission in low for speeds 25 mph and under. This will extend the life of your cvt belt also. I have found I really only use my high gear on the hard top from trail to trail or on the old logging/gas well roads where i ride. I agree if it's in your budget, get the 800 or 1000 for the stored power and if you haul heavy loads.

Thanks for the fast response.
Have another question relating to the post. I just drove a new UForce 800cc and experienced a tremendous amount of transmission/clutch jerking while starting in forward and reverse.  Does this also occur in a 500cc as well? Dealer didn't have a 500 to test drive . I have a quad 570 with belt drive that jerks some, but not like this. What is your experience with the 500 UForce and does the rough starts calm down after miles of driving.

My Z8 did that for a few miles. I suspect the belt needed to break in, and I've learned to be gentle on the throttle.

Did they have more than one to test drive?

The powertrain on the Zforce 500 I believe is the same as on the Uforce.  I purchased mine used with 120 miles on it and the throttle response at that time was smooth.  I'd say being new and having much more HP on the 800 you will experience the jerking if you are heavy on the throttle or giving pulsating and not even pressure while depressing the pedal.

With me not knowing anything at all...my dealer said "If you want speed, get the 800. If you want to just go on trails and have fun, get the 500". I weigh about 180. My old Polaris 325 was more than enough power for me, one person only. I'm still too new to a side-by-side to make any judgement.

For the jerking on take off, I don't have that problem at all. It is pretty smooth. It seems sluggish, but the dealer says that is normal.
