Reading Codes?
« on: January 20, 2024, 09:51:23 AM »
My 2023 Uforce 1000   engine light came on when starting off on my morning trapline check. It has had some initial problems on cold mornings cutting off and rough idle but usually gets better as it warms up.
Out of caution I returned to the house but now what ? A quick internet search revealed I need a special tool only available to dealers to read the codes ?  Are they serious?  After a year of use, I think I can see where this is going already, I'm going to end up  having to sell this for whatever I can get and buy something else.  If anybody has any ideas its appreciated.

I was under the impression that with the new dashs and EFI system, anything built 2020 and newer along with the MIL light also showed the actual error code in the dash as well. Can you take a photo of your dash with the "check engine/MIL" light on and post it? With that said on the older ones there is a way to make it flash (as in a flash sequence) the error code. If yours is flashing irregularly, take a video of it for like 20 seconds and post it.

Having an effect on its idle likely means there is an issue with either the Idle Air Control Valve or the TPS. Seems to be becoming more common these days. But lets see if we can get the code.

From what I heard, and this may not be 100% true, the Chinese did comply with using a standard OBD11 port connector but there was no actual requirement that said the standard reader had to read the codes...so they changed the wiring configuration so they had to use theirs. This is hear-say at this point..but there is however..a post on here from someone that made an adapter that worked.

I saw something about reading the flashes but its solid so I think that is the older ones.  I did see in the service manual that it lists a dedicated tool to read and yes further research shows its not an ODBC port.  I also saw where somebody had made one and it had power but didn't read anything. Amazon does have an adapter for about $14 so maybe its worth a shot to try it out. I put the machine in the garage for a while, checked the oil, disconnected the battery, dumped some sea foam in the tank and took it out on the trapline about 4 miles and it seemed ok, the roughness went away. Engine light is still on though. I don't see any code displayed unless there is some trick to get it to show.  I think  that machine likes to warm up and idles really rough at 15 degrees probably should have let it warm up for 3 or 4 minutes.
