Exhaust heat shield broke off
« on: December 27, 2023, 04:42:10 PM »
I bought my 23’ uforce 1000 new back in September and have just over 1100 miles on it currently. Heard a horrible rattle near the engine, found the heat shield over the exhaust pipe (right by the battery) has broken at the welds and was laying on the skid plate causing the rattle. I am just wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this. The dealer says I need to bring it in, they will diagnose it and let me know. I have a fully enclosed cab and the heat from the passenger seat is intense, even before the shield broke off and I was considering wrapping the pipe with header heat wrap to help with the heat. What if I just left that heat shield off and wrapped the pipe right from the engine and past the battery and the area the shield once covered? Would that wrap be a good enough shield to take the place of the shield that fell off?
Just trying to get some ideas/opinions, this is my first SxS and still learning the ins & outs

The wrap will do a far better job then the shield.. however on some applications, because it forces the pipe to get much hotter as it can't radiate the heat, some pipe won't last as long. Also when washing it the wrap will retain the water and cause faster rusting. But I think CFM is using stainless steel piping so that won't matter. If it were me, especially if I had a heat issue in the cab, I would let the dealer fix/replace it under warranty, then when I got home remove it, wrap the pipe, then reinstall the new shield over the wrap. Wrap it as far as you can.

I better get it back to the dealer. Thanks for that input. The service guy couldn’t even tell me over the phone if the warranty will cover it. But that sounds like the best idea (if they cover it) get it repaired then remove it-wrap the pipe-reinstall shield.

Just tell them it better be covered because it was nothing you did that broke it.
