Engine block heater
« on: January 26, 2025, 12:27:04 PM »
Has anyone installed a block heater on their uforce 1000? I wondering if one in the lower radiator hose will actually get any heat to the engine.
Any info/ideas would be appreciated.

I have not...only because mine is kept inside a temperature controlled building. But, sure, a coolant heater will depart at least some heat throughout the engine, especially the water jacket areas. Many people that leave theirs outside but out of the wind under a cover use these heating pads. Just slip it under the engine on top of the skid plate and plug it in. Many say it works fine if out of the wind. Of course the first thing that needs protected is the battery with a smart charger or tender, then these things to slow wear and tear of starts in the cold. And don't be afraid of using 0W40 in the winter...or any other time for that matter.

Thanks for the response. Machine is parked outside under cover with a battery tender. I've looked at the heat pads but thought they needed to be attacnhed to the pan. Did'nt know if they would get to hot for the skid plate. I am considering going to a lithium battery but again skeptical of its performance in the cold. Right now it is 10 degrees here in eastern Washington.  Machine is starting after dieing a couple of times.

There are also drain plug and dip stick heaters but some say they find some evidence of overheated oil (burned) on some of them. On the LI batteries, the cold does effect their initial rate of CCA delivery but I was told and practiced when having one in my Brute Force that if you just turn the lights on first for about 5 seconds to align the ions and turn them off, the cranking is at or above what a standard flooded battery can put out. Not sure that's true but I never had any starting problems with mine even down in the single digit temps..even not doing the headlight trick. I do know the first time I hit the start button with it it almost scared me a little as it spin my Brute over like it had an air starter...like it had no compression and on 24 volts. Impressive. Took a special charger to maintain it but it was always there for me.
