Battery voltage fluctuating
« on: January 10, 2024, 01:39:06 AM »
I have a 2021 UFORCE 1000.  Sunday morning, the machine wouldn't start, nothing new, usually if machine sits a couple days without use I have to charge the battery.  I placed on the battery charger and left it charging for a few hours, checked the charger and it was showing a fully charged battery.  Still wouldn't start.  I then jump started the machine with my truck, removed the cables and the machine shutoff.  I jumped it again and left it connected for about 10 min. removed the cables and the machine remained running until I tried to use the winch to lift up my plow blade, the machine again shutoff.  I jumped it again and after I removed the cables it remained running, I was watching the voltage on the dashboard display (I do not have a multimeter).  The voltage was fluctuating anywhere from 12.2 - 17.8.  I am thinking there is something wrong with the stator or rectifier, any other thoughts?  Also, while it was idling and I was watching the voltage fluctuating, the engine light came on solid.  I did not see any codes flashing though  I have the extended warranty on the machine, would problems with the stator or rectifier be covered under warranty?  Thank you.

Could be more things wrong now with all that jumping and spiking but I think the original problem is an open..or failing cell in the battery. Pull it and have it load tested...asap! and no more jumping. If bad replace it but now there may be additional issues with the rectifier/regulator..maybe the stator...maybe the ECU(let's hope not as they are very fussy on stable voltage).

I have just put a new battery in it as the old battery was shot.  What is the reasoning for not jumping it anymore?  I will have to get it started to load onto my trailer to take to the shop for repairs.  From what I have been reading, I am thinking it is either the stator or rectifier.  Maybe even both are problems.  Thank you.

In theory, your system was trying to charge a battery that wasn't chargeable, overloading the system.

If the battery is charged and good and all the connections are OK it still should turn-over and/or start. With it not doing so with or without a jump suggests maybe a toasted Aux relay or bad battery connection. Re-check all the cable connections..both ends. May have a bad rectifier or stator but.. it still should start.
