Thinking about buying a 800 Trail, but...
« on: June 24, 2019, 02:45:46 PM »
I've narrowed my selection down to a 800 Trail, but have a couple of questions that I hope you can answer for me.  I live in Montana and after some research I am finding that, in my part of the state, there are a lot of 50" or narrower trails available, so that is the reason for the Trail model.

1.  I've been looking at the 2019 800 Trail and am wondering if any of you have had any tipping issues with the narrower 50" wide stance?

2.  Also, I'm questioning whether to buy a 2019 now, or wait until the 2020's are released because of possible upgrades that the '20's might have over the 2019's.  Has anyone heard anything?

3.  Has anyone heard when the 2020's will be released?  Or, if you recall, which month were the 2019's or 2018's released?

Last one.

4.  Has anyone heard what the price increase will be on the 2020 models?

Thanks for any information you can share.  rlc (Western Montana)

All 50" machines are more tippy then a 59 or 60 or 70+" machine. The CFM trail is reported to be no more tippy then the Can Am Maverick Trail or the old RzR 80s but because of it's short height the A/C wilcat trail is less. But.. I ride with one and not only do I hate the sound, it can't keep up with me at all.

As for any difference between the 2019s and 2020s, CFM does line updates every three months so they may not be any real differences in then nor the price. Nor sure when the 20s will come out...end of July stick out in my bain though.

NMKawierider.  Thanks for the reply and the great information.  Based on what you typed about the possible 2020 release date and the no price increase I think that I'll hold off buying for a month or two or three.  I love this forum, btw.  Very informative and I've already got some upgrades that I want to do.  Thanks again.

Welcome. Make sure that UniFilter is the first one...in fact have it ready before taking delivery.

I have  '17 Trail 800 and from my experience it is remarkably stable. Go figure, after all it's a couple inches wider than an ATV and all the heavy stuff including your onboard gasoline (and not to mention the occupants!) is/are lower on the machine than on an ATV, ergo it's much more stable than one of those.
I have been in situations come upon unexpectedly, where the machine and I are at seriously worrisome off camber angles and it seemed as though I could touch the ground with my elbow, but it has always just soldiered on as though on the flat.
It's all good.  8)

NMKawierider.  I see there are a few different Unifilters out there.  Do you happen to know what the product code is for the filter you are suggesting?  I did purchase an extra CFMOTO filter for the 800 Trail when I purchased it, so I do have the ability to switch out a dirty filter in the field if the need be.  Thanks for your help.

EDIT:  I may have found it.  Is it a Two Stage #UP-6229AST?

That one or just get the straight one which is UP6229ST. And get a quality foam filter treatment and it's cleaner. Most of us use Maxima FAB-1. Get two filters if you need-oil one and keep it with you in a baggie. NEVER use any CFM air filter..ever! Even their foam filter let partials through.

Also remember to either turn around or remove the lip on the OE adapter as it will prevent the Uni from mounting correctly. This lip:
