reliability of the UTVs? vs a rzr? any high mileage users?
« on: August 11, 2017, 05:05:22 PM »
Hi All! So I was at the dealership and noticed the price of the CF moto 800. and I am love with the look and accessory. so i talked to a few ppl at the dealer ( service PEOPLE and sales man)

so they recommended i was until they more rzrs in stock; that cfmotos arent bad machine but if I want something to last, go for RZR - and mentioned you get what you pay for.

so im not sure what to go. I obviously dont want a machine with problems. Do you have have any stories? maybe a cfmoto with 2000+ miles with no issues? etc. I know rzrs can have problems, but I believe they are not often as I have a 570 with 1000 miles no issues yet

was hoping cfmotos can be comparable as far as reliability? like blown motors and tranny issues are what im concerned about or small breaks every 3 months.

Yeah not a lot of long-term owners...a few though. Most are having pretty good luck with..others...not so much. Good luck with your new RzR. Like anything else out there-"take care of it and it will take care of you".

My 2012 has 2400 miles on it and until recently I have not given it much attention as far as maintenance, I would get it to the dealer once or twice a year for service and do nothing in between except check oil and water. I have had a total of 5 issues, the temperature sensor, oxygen sensor, horn switch, U-joints and rear shock absorbers.  When the u-joints went bad it caused the rear differential to flex up and down until the mounting bracket fatigued which caused a part of the bracket to break loose, I welded in a new mounting plate and changed the u-joints and all is good, the rear shock reservoirs were pressing hard against the edge of a plastic body panel and the edge of the panel was literally sawing into the aluminum reservoir, I cut away about 3/8" of plastic about 4" long to give the reservoir some space, the shocks are fine but I don't think it would have taken much more time before the reservoirs would have been punctured, I did a post with pictures on this problem a few days ago. I feel that the mounting bracket was too thin and the shocks rubbing the panels was a QC issue, the other items were minor and you will find that with any ATV, car, boat etc.

We hear about the problems on this forum because some like myself had a problem and came here looking for an answer, I would think that the number of problems posted on this forum is very small in comparison to the total number of units that CFMotors has produced over the years.

oh wow thats not bad at all, my big fears are engine blowing tranny blowing. It might take me a few years to reach 2000 miles since I ride once a month. if any other ones with 1000+ miles let me know! although I bought a rzr, my wife really likes this rzr, so I might buy her a cfmoto down the road

Well I'm over 900 and the engine is actually like new. I did take some precautions such as changing air intake and putting double filters on it and running a very good oil. But that's really it.

I can't think of a single transmission failure that I have read about. A couple engine failures due to bad air filters and one other on here recently who is rebuilding his engine due to a rod bearing failure. I don't think these are prone to big failures, mostly little things that are easy do it yourself fixes. I have had a few issues with mine but still, for 9500 out the door compared to paying 17k for a RZR equivalent I'll save the money, I can buy a new engine and still be less than the RZR 900s

wow that actually is impressive! it takes me about 2 / 3 years to add in 1000 miles on my quad. So 2k miles will probably take me 5 - 6 years to do on a side by side for the wife.

and actually, the 800 is what I plan on getting in december. Thanks for all of the feedback!! If anyone else havent had problems, or any long term reviews on cfmotos utv and atvs please let me know!!

I am planning to get one in December, so still have plenty of time!

1640 miles on mine.  I replaced a rear wheel bearing and I have a front on its way out.  Front and rear brakes were changed last winter.  Like the previous poster I also had my A arm bolts come loose.  I'm starting to worry about a belt failure.  I change oil in the engine and diff's every winter regardless on miles.  The Uni filter gets cleaned on a regular basis.  I'm probably gonna flush the coolant this winter just because.  No complaints by me.  I'm not rough on the machine but, I don't baby it either.  Check out my videos on youtube and you will see what I mean.  As far as I'm concerned I got my money out of the Z.

Bought mine used in may from a guy who didn't know how to locate the battery. Battery quit and they quit ridding it lol so I know they didn't do much if any maintenance on it. When I got it I installed uni filter changed all the fluids, new tires and greesed everything new breaks and that's about it. Had 900 miles when I got it has 1200 now. Runs great couldn't ask for more out of it. She will go anywhere the other brands will go some places they won't  (front locket) all and all very happy with the brand and it's nice when you go to a atv park and you see everyone else has the same thing RZR and you got the force lol.
Don't hesitate, accelerate

I know that I don't have the 800 but I do have the Z6 600 2015 model and it has been a really great machine so far. I'm at 1720 miles and the following are the issues that I did have with it.

- Crank Case breather hose was too long from the factory causing the hose to bind and pressure to build up in the engine subsequently causing some heavy weeping of oil throughout the engine seals.
- Fix- I shortened the breather hose and all leaks stopped completely.

- Radiator Temp Switch malfunctioned caused my machine to overheat only slightly and would turn on the ignition warning light on the dash.
- Fix- I went to the local CFMOTO dealer and purchased a new $16 thermo switch and changed it. Added new radiator fluid and I've been good ever since.

- Excessively dirty air filter and poor design
-Fix- I purchased a K&N air filter with the snow bag and installed a new mount inside my airbox, now I can mount any 2 inch air filter on the market. I still need to relocate the air box due to it getting extremely dirty after just a few rides in the dust.

- Could not grease the lower a-arm fittings.
- fix- went to lowes, purchased two new 90 degree grease fittings for $1.88 per piece and now I can grease the lower control arms easily.

Now, I'm 43 years old and have been working on wheelers all of my life. I have got to say, the engineering of these CF moto wheelers are as good or better than any Polaris ever built. Been there, done that. The parts fits better, the steel is heavier, and for me, the shock bushings are actually made out of metal. LOL! Their quality control could use some serious improvements however IMO.  My biggest gripe is CF Moto's poor excuse for an air intake system and lack of HP for a 600 cc motor. Next year I will be making some clutch mods to see if this will help. Overall, I am really impressed with the little machine and I would consider buying another in the future. The motor runs smooth, does not make any weird noises and chugs along dependably. I've been skidding full size trees off my land for the last several months without issue, so it's a little tractor in my book! Hope this review helps some people.
