CForce 1000 Overland - Should I buy it?
« on: June 07, 2023, 10:57:05 AM »
I've never owned an ATV before but have wanted one for a number of years now.
I'm in my fifties and now in a position to be able to buy a new vehicle.
I could buy a new car but here in Spain where I live it will only get dented and scratched in the supermarket car parks.
I would really like a big bike but I don't have a bike license and my Spanish isn't really up to taking the test.
So as I was in town the other day I spotted the most beautiful quad bike I have ever seen. It was parked outside a local dealer and they were just fitting a license plate to it, for the new owner to take away I presume. I had to stop for a look and to enquire as to the price. It was a CF Moto CForce 1000 Overland.
Over 13k Euros. Expensive.
I want one.
How to justify it though? More importantly, how to justify it to the wife?
I live on a hillside with a couple of acres of land. Loads of small roads and tracks around but mostly paved roads.
I'd probably use it more for the half hour drive into town than going out on the trail.
I watched a couple of YT videos of driving this thing on paved roads and the reviews were really good. It's fast enough and sounds really nice. It's pretty much the size of a small car so not many benefits to driving in town. It might be useful on my land if I get a trailer.
But it might spend most of its time sitting in the garage with me waiting for an excuse to go out. And I don't know anyone else with one nor any off road clubs around here, only a couple of quad-tour companies for the tourists.
So that's my dilemma.
I have the money to buy it but it's a lot of money for an ornament.

The first thing for me would be to look at my daily transportation needs. What's required such as cabbed for weather conditions with heating and cooling and hauling abilities and will an open-air. If that's covered, then a long conversation with the wife is next. Her input will weigh 80% on the decision of what to get and how much money to cast away so maybe rent one for a day and go out with here so she gets a real feel of it. I know there are many that use ATVs as daily transportation, however for most of us here in the US, it isn't practical. I knew a guy in Greece that used his Brute Force as a daily driver and put over 22 thousand miles on it. Maybe just go with the gut...lol

Adverse weather conditions don't really apply where I live in southern Spain.
It gets hot and ac would be nice but a bike would have the same issues as an ATV.
It doesn't rain much around here and when it does rain it's usually a pleasant relief.
If I get one it will be my daily driver, the wife has her car.
One thing of concern over here is the registration and EU homologation rules.
All CF Moto ATVs are classified under the T(Tractor) ruling which means a red on white license plate. This limits the use on certain roads. Motorways (or Highways) are definitely not allowed but I'm not sure about other main roads. Also I've read articles that state no passengers on paved roads. This would be a major block for me.
However other makes of ATV such as Segway can be registered under the L classification which means a standard black on white license plate and the same freedom to drive as for normal cars.
So this makes my choice even more complicated.
When I first started looking at ATVs I was thinking the Seqway Snarler L was the one for me, until I spotted the 1000 Overland.
If my main use was off-road then I would definitely be getting a 1000 Overland.
I think I can manage to persuade the wife, but I have to clarify the homologation issue first.

If it was more for pure transportation, like a motorcycle, then I think I would have to look at one that can be used everywhere and carry a passenger..personally.
