500 vs 800
« on: December 18, 2017, 10:29:48 AM »
Hi All,

I'm looking at potentially picking up a new UForce 500HO, use case would be putting around the family farm and pond, light duty utility. Some leisurely trail riding, light off roading.

Would the 500 be better suited for this than the 800? I spoke with a dealer who mentioned that the 800 doesn't really like to go slow while the 500 is better suited to putter around. Is there any truth to that? There's a dealer who's offering a free plow, $500 cash back, and 6 months free financing right now on some closeout '17s.

I can't speak for the UForces but as for general comparison between the 500s and the 800s, either are suited for slow-going as much as the other however for work, which the UForce was built for, the 800 will just have more of...well.. everything.. and IMO only, with so may reporting problems with all the 500 engines, which mange are fixed now, I just would have a hard time buying a 500 in any model and would just go with the proven 800 anyway. Now with that said, there are many reports of good and long service out of the 500s and there are many happy owners... so with an extended warranty..and some extra perks like you mentioned...and no more need then what you say.. it may be the right one for you.

Yea, the 800 does seem like tremendous value given the price point. I just don't think we'd ever go over 30mph haha. I'm sure it's a great machine, but we have a tractor, an end loader and a plow truck. I just don't see us using it for much more than some light utility work and some minor joy riding. I have to think the 500 would be god's plenty for what we'd need it for.

I have the 500 with the same use as the OP. The engine has plenty of power to haul 2 large men plus a 200 lbs deer in the dump box out of the bush. It has proven to be very reliable in cold weather starting and easy on fuel.

The only area of concern is that the clutch is a CVT trail bloc which is dry versus the 800 which has a wet clutch system. We did manage to smoke the belt pulling a tree down but this was an extreme use of the machine? Generally speaking I am happy with the 500 and find the torque and speed perfect for my needs.

Hahaha, yea we could probably use the tractor for that. With that said, wouldn't the wet clutch actually make for a slightly smoother ride at lower speeds than the dry clutch? Maybe that guy had no idea what he was talking about?

This comes up alot  :) & it's a high class problem  8) I'm going to assume that budget is not the issue & you want to make the best choice for your application.

The best way is try both units in the way you are thinking of using them, that's what I would do & have done so. Not every dealer offers that or can accommodate a real world test & demo.

If you cannot test drive, here are my comments. Low range @ lower speeds is your friend, CVT's do not like Hi range & low speed. The 500 has plenty of power & will do the job, the difference is vibration & buzz. Close the cab of the U FORCE 500 in & the noise & vibration will make you crazy. I've spent plenty of time in both & will take the V Twin hands down, in low range @ low speed both will work just fine!

My fav CFMOTO is a UF 800 with Elka stage 1 shocks  8)

Very good point and I did extensive sound dampening by installing sticky foam to the dump box and other strategic areas near the engine. It really helped a lot and made it more pleasurable and tolerable to drive. Something CFMOTO should look into doing at the factory to knock down the decibels.

That was all really good advice. I think I might lean towards the 800 if I can find a deal. There's a 2017 Demo for sale up north sold as new for $9995, thousand more than the 500, but I think it's probably worth it. The sound is a big selling point. Putting around a quieter, smoother ride of the V-Twin is a big selling point. Plus the power when/if I need it.

Nabbed a 2016 Demo(replaced air filter) UForce 800 with 17.2 miles on it for $8995 before taxes, title etc. Felt like a pretty damn good deal. Thanks for the help guys, the 800 was substantially quieter and smoother, good call!

I have the the 2013 600 swat and use it in the winter to plow snow, works well in deep snow and no chains required.also use it for ice fishing. I'am not into speed so thats way they call me slow dog .  why they stopped with the 600  and went back with a 500 ?

I had to google what a SWAT was, lol it literally looks like UForce had a baby with a Jeep. It's great. Guessing you reside in Canada?
