« on: August 19, 2020, 12:07:02 PM »
Hello ! Steve here from NY . I am looking for my first used Side by Side (Always had ATVs) I have narrowed it down to a 2016 CFMoto 800 that is really clean and a 2014 Polaris RZR 800 which is not as clean , Both have about 2500 miles and both have similar mods  , Any thoughts ?

About all you will get are opinions so...here's mine. And this stems from my friend who does have a 2014 RzR 800 and where I have a 2015 ZF800. If..if the ZForce has been very well taken care of and at least has had it's air filter changed to the Unifilter right at the start, and has never be abused, then I would lean toward the ZForce. However, if there is any question as to the ZForce's history, then hands-down the only choice is the RzR. The 800 RzR is well established as one of Polaris's most dependable machines and even though it's not made anymore, many thousand are still out there taking their owners on long adventures and bringing them home again.. time and time again. And there will will be parts and accessory's available for many years to come. Just my 2-cents.

I'll mostly echo what Clark said, but would double check the air filter on the RZR as well. I've seen lots of top end work on Polaris in the local shop, so they aren't immune from dust either.

Private sale or dealership? Warrantied by seller? Which one fits you better?
And of course, price.

What kind of riding are you expecting?

The RZR has a history of catching fire and there are LOTS of recalls for this so make sure the machine has been kept up to date.

Drive both. The drive trains are quite different. The Z may be louder (drivetrain noise) so you will want to check that. The Z has much better engine braking which you will appreciate if you ride a lot of steep hills. The Z also has a locking front diff which can make a big difference when climbing over obstacles, especially uphill.

Check out the RZR forums too. I can't agree that RZRs are more reliable. I've seen too many break down on group trips in a whole host of interesting ways, but then, the owners were spirited drivers, so it's to be expected. I've had the most fun jumping in a RZR, so they have good suspensions.

Whatever you by, expect regular maintenance activies to keep them healthy.
