I was told if I do a lot of riding in water I should drain water from lower unit, how do I do this?

I have a new Zforce 500 and would like a windshield for it. I will do some trail riding and use for hunting in snow and rain. Would a half windshield work best of a full one?

I had troubles starting my ride this morning. It was 18F Degrees, Any tips it took for ever and alot of cranking. Only sat over night so battery should have been charged.
