Thank you. I figured there was some kind of protocol or etiquette thing that was being used while trail riding but just wasn't sure what it was. Thanks for clearing this up. Very helpful. I'm sure there is more to learn.

Ah! Ok, that clears that up. I'm glad I asked then. Thanks!

General Discussion / Question about passing on trail ride
July 14, 2026, 12:54:56 PM
I am still new to trail riding in my Zforce. Most of my rides have been on one way trails in a state park. This past weekend, I was out on the Cheese Corner Trail in SW Wisconsin. Pretty sure it's a converted railroad bed that travels both ways between several towns.
When meeting up with another SxS going opposite way, we would both slow down and pull over to have enough room to pass each other. But most of the drivers would then extend their arms with a closed fist.
I get acknowledging the other driver but why a closed fist? When riding my motorcycle down the road, it's common to extend left arm at downward angle and extend the first 2 fingers. And I have also noticed Jeep Wrangler owners often while holding steering wheel, extend first 2 fingers on their left hand to acknowledge another Jeep Wrangler.
So is it just personal preference with extended arm and fist or does it mean something that I should be aware of? Is it something common in other locations as well or is it a local custom? Just curious.

ZForce 800 EX, 53 & Trail / Re: Clutch/transmission

Although mine is a 2023, when shifting into low, I need to pull it firmly all the way down. If I just casually pull it into low, I will often get that horrible grinding gear sound. I had it to the dealer a couple months ago to have oil change and inspection done. Originally they said there was nothing wrong as it wouldnt do it for them. I found that I could make it do that on command by lightly shifting into low gear and demonstrated it for them. They mentioned like NMKawierider did that the linkage probably needs to be adjusted. They also mentioned that if I adjust the linkage so it doesnt happen in low, it may affect shifting in other gears as well. I call BS on that and think that if properly adjusted, it could only help. It only would occasionally do it in low but not any other gear. So my solution for now is just to firmly pull it into low and it works fine. Eventually I am going to try adjusting the linkage myself and see how that goes.

And yet still another long, dry, condescending post instead of being helpful. Thanks pal. It would have been much easier to just post a link than drone on about someone else's abilities. I guess that helps make you feel superior??? It really gives me a clearer picture of what type of person you really are. A Chucky one way, only out for themselves and it's very clear by the content of your posts. I am more than capable of searching across many different platforms. I have often helped others with tracking down obscure information and enjoy doing it instead of whining like a little baby. I just help and post the info and/or link as needed. You will be a true "credit" to the Canam community and I'm sure they will be glad to have you "helping out" over there. Bye Felicia!

I politely asked you to provide further info about the transmission upgrade and instead of doing so, you give me a condescending reply that you found it in 30 second Google search. And then you proceed to rip on @NMKawierider again! I'm surprised he hasn't banned you yet. I think your idea about returning to CanAm is the best thing you have said and can do. Maybe they will like your piss poor attitude better there pal. It's probably for the best and I wish you well.

Whoa, whoa! You just ripped in the forum owner. Not cool, dude. I too would like some info on this supposed transmission upgrade. And I did try research and happen to be very good at digging. I came up blanks. And even the CF Moto site is mum on this. Maybe you were having a bad day and a bit frustrated, I have those too. But it would be appreciated if you can share what you know.

ZForce 950/1000 Sport & EX / Re: 2024 800 zforce not speedometer or high speed
January 07, 2026, 01:08:45 PM
This may be a stupid question but do you have the seatbelts on? I know this has nothing to do with the speed being shown on the speedometer but I know that speed is limited if seatbelts aren't worn.

I know in the motorcycle world that I've been a part of for almost 3 decades is motors that have a wet clutch, avoid using oils that are energy conserving or have friction modifiers. A quick way to check is to look at the circular API symbol on back label. It has a smaller circle in center that shows the weight of the oil. On the lower rocker, if it is blank, it will not be an energy conserving oil or have friction modifiers so generally considered ok to use on wet clutch engines. Not all suitable oils will have the JASO MA/MA2 designation but if there API label is blank on bottom, it has been considered safe. I had used Chevron Deli 400 oils for many years on my Goldwing and had nice smooth shifting. Then they changed the formula and it now had additives that weren't good for the wet clutch. I have now been using Shell Rotella T6 which actually has JASO MA/MA2 certification and also on several weights shows a picture of a motorcycle on the front label. But more importantly, the API label on back shows a blank lower rocker. I like it just as much as the old Deli oil for performance. And these are both considered diesel oils.
Now I will admit my CFMoto knowledge isn't great but the motors are basically motorcycle motors. What I don't know is if they are considered "wet" clutches. I have seen some threads that mention they partially are. If that's the case, I would not hesitate to use the various oils that are free of friction modifiers or not considered energy conserving. A blank lower rocker on the API symbol and I would be fine using it.

ZForce 800 EX, 53 & Trail / 2023 800 Trail tank fill discrepancy
December 21, 2025, 03:40:20 PM
I never paid attention before but on the last time I fueled up, I thought I had filled the tank. The gauge on the dash shows full and visually down the fill tube, it appeared to be full. However, the CFMoto app only shows the tank at 5/6 full. Is that just a glitch with the app or is my dash gauge not correct? Not a big deal but I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

General Discussion / Experiences with ATV Flashing in Wyoming
November 26, 2025, 01:53:52 PM
I am curious on others experiences with ATV Flashing out of Wyoming. I haven't seen hardly any feedback here on this. I have seen many positive reviews in other places though so I decided to try it. I haven't gotten to really test it out just yet because my side by side is kind of buried in the cluttered garage in front of my Goldwing trike that I sent the ECU off to BTMoto for a tune.
I sent the ECU in my stock 2023 Zforce 800 off on a Monday. About a week and a half later, Friday, it got delivered back to me. It is advertised that the fuel tables getting adjusted along with timing so better smoother throttle response so more power and supposed to run cooler. Only costs $149 plus return shipping which seemed like a fair price.
I did install it back on and started it up. One thing I noticed right away is the idle is a lot smoother. I can't wait to get it out and put it through it's paces. Luckily in my town, we can ride down the streets. Hopefully within a week I will find out.

UForce 800 / Re: Too Hot to Drive

Owners of a lot of UTVs from different manufacturers have similar complaints about cab heat and excessive engine heat. It appears that the manufacturers are tuning the engines to run very hot and lean to meet EPA or some other government mandates. Many have found that by reprogramming the ECU the heat can be dropped significantly while at the same time getting a bit more performance out of the UTV. (Possibly removing or changed some of the limits on the engine as well.) There are a couple of companies that can do this for the ECU's used on the CFMoto both here and in Europe (where they apparently have even more restrictions placed on the vehicle's ECU). It requires removing the ECU and sending it to them for reprogramming. Or you can try and find a replacement ECU and have them reprogram that one. CFMoto charges an arm and a leg for an ECU, but there are a number of much less expensive ones to be found on eBay or AliExpress. Be careful of the Chinese ones as some reprogrammers have had trouble with them and have bricked them. I suspect, but don't know for sure, that any replacement must have the same computer board and match the first 7 characters of the ECU ID (the last three characters probably refer to the progamming in the ECU).
http://www.atvflashing.com appears to have a lot of experience doing this and Ray, the guy there, is very responsive to e-mails.
I took a chance and decided to give ATVFlashing a try. I saw this business mentioned several other places and all good reviews. I sent my ECU about a week and a half ago. I received a notification email that it is in the way back to me and I should have it Saturday. It is advertised to provide smoother throttle response, more power and run cooler. My 2023 ZForce 800 trail is all stock and I really have no plans on modifying it. But all the things mentioned that the flashing will accomplish all sound like what I would like as a result.

How To's (New Topics are to be Instructional Only) / Re: Installing turn signals on the 2023 Gen2 ZForce 800/950 Trail and 950 Sport

Has any one tried this on the Zforce 950-4? I don't see any amber in my headlights. It seems like all the same plugs are there.
You won't see any amber until the turn signal lights are activated. They are LED lights with a clear covering over them. That is how my 800 trail is but in fact has amber flashing lights up front when I activate the turn signal switch.

ZForce 800 EX, 53 & Trail / Re: 2023 800 Trail grinding/clanking when slowing and other questions...
April 04, 2025, 03:28:45 PM
Well I am looking at diving in to check this sometime next week. I just received my CFMoto Service Manual and browsed through it pretty deeply. I can find absolutely no mention of the shifter or the shifter cable. Ugh... I will say that everything else seems to be covered pretty thoroughly though. On another note, the electric schematics although on a large foldout page are pretty small and may need a magnifying glass for my old eyes.
