General Discussion / CVTech Secondary Clutch
January 07, 2023, 01:48:15 PM
Hi Folks,
Hoping any 800XC owners can help answer a question I have about the secondary clutch.
In 2022, I purchased a CF Moto 800XC. Recently while doing regular maintenance (cleaning the clutches and replacing my belt), and I came across a situation that pertains to the secondary clutch.
In looking at the exploded diagram for the clutches on the parts diagram as well as the service manual from CF Moto, it seems there should be a small washer or shim on the secondary shaft that the secondary assy pushes up against (in the parts diagram it's called 'adjust washer'). I assume this is done to ensure alignment and proper deflection between the primary and secondary clutches. What is odd, is that my secondary clutch shaft had no such washer or shim. I did check inside the secondary clutch (the hole that the secondary shaft slides into), and it was not in there either.
So, the question arises - is this normal? Do some secondary clutch assy's have it and others don't? If so, is this done because of MFR'ing tolerances and my particular secondary clutch assy was within acceptable parameters and therefore did not require a shim?
Or, could this have been left out in error by either CV Tech or CF Moto at the time of assembly/production?
I can easily procure the shim and add it if needed, but I don't want to do so if it shouldn't have one based on the tolerance considerations at time of manufacturing as mentioned above.

General Discussion / Bearing - Good or Bad?
August 07, 2022, 11:37:05 AM
Hi Folks,
Amidst disassembly of the rear end components on my %u201822 800XC to repair a torn CV boot, I came across this. Seems like a little too much axial play on the inner race of the bearing%u2026but then again, maybe not? Bike only has 2000km%u2019s on it so if this is a bad bearing, than I guess I am really unlucky for it to have failed this early on.
What are your thoughts%u2026is this normal?

Hey folks,
I have a 2022 800XC, and I noticed today that there is a small tear on left rear inboard CV boot. There was grease splattered in the wheel well and frame...so, time to change it out. That said, does anyone know if the entire rear trailing arm needs to come off in order to free up and pull the axle from the differential? I know the brake, the brake rotor and the suspension need to be undone, but not sure if after that is done I can move the trailing arm up or down enough to get the outboard CV out of the wheel hub. Would be nice if it is possible, as I have the Iron Baltic skid plates and so if the entire trailing arm needs to come off, I'll be needing to undo the portion of the skid under the footwell also. Looks like a PITA to remove that huge bolt that fastens the trailing arm to the frame of the ATV   :(

General Discussion / Speedo Calibration
January 09, 2022, 07:41:06 PM
Hey Gang,
Anyone know how to access the speedo calibration settings on 2019 and up CFMOTO gauge clusters?
I've noticed on my 2022 800XC my speedometer is off by about ~ 5kph (compared to GPS app on my phone - which I believe to me more accurate).
Doesn't bother me so much about the actual vs reported speed, so much as it does the extra mileage I am racking up that I am not actually doing (which will affect resale value). I found this vid on YT, which is useful for models pre-dating 2019, but cannot seem to find any posts about the 'button combo' for the newer models.

General Discussion / Valve Clearance - WRONG
December 14, 2021, 08:57:14 PM
Well, my dealer nailed me. Against my better judgement I brought my brand new 2022 CForce 800XC to them to check the valve clearance (required for warranty in Canada), as I was at 20 hrs. When I picked up the bike, I asked them about the adjustments and they said they adjusted all the valves because they were tight.
Odd I thought, but I let it go.
Went for a ride this weekend, and noticed a lot of valve train noise.
This evening I removed the valve cover on the rear most cylinder, and low and behold, both intake and exhaust were waaaay out of spec.
Exhaust spec should be .11mm to .19mm and I can get a feeler gauge in there that is .305mm
On the intake, spec is .06mm to .14mm and I can get a feeler gauge of .24mm.
The cylinder is at TDC, timing marks lined up and I have done valve adjustment before so this is not 'user error'.
So...now I am going to adjust my own valves, and go get my money back from the dealer.
Question though, could I have damaged the valves (valve seat, cams, rockers or valve tips)?
Since the dealer did the adjustment I have put about 160km on it.
I am super pissed, and very concerned I have damaged the valves by running the bike in this condition.

General Discussion / Blown Bearing?
December 10, 2021, 01:39:40 AM
Hey folks,
Purchased a 2022 CForce 800XC about a month ago.
Today I noticed grease in the right rear wheel hub which seems to be coming from the bearing!? I know a bearing can squeeze out extra grease sometimes, but this much on a new bike with 195 miles on it??

General Discussion / Break In Service
November 29, 2021, 02:13:20 PM
 Hi Gang,
I have a dilemma that I need some opinions on.
Have a new 800XC that is approaching 20hrs. The dealer I bought from (10 mins away from me), just got the CFM Franchise. I called them to book an appointment and they remarked that this will be the first CFM they will work on. For the oil and fluid changes, I am not worried as that is very standard stuff. However, they need to check valve clearances. Not sure how comfortable I am with a dealer who has never done this before on a CFM bike. My other alternative is a dealer 1hr away from me, but they have had the CFM franchise for 3+ years, and are well acquainted with the machines.

Do I play it safe and travel for 1hr, or take a leap of faith and give it to the new dealer?
I have trust issues - so this decision is not an easy one for me :(

General Discussion / Break In Maintenance
November 16, 2021, 01:39:25 PM
Hi Folks,
Is it a requirement by CFM Canada to have the break in maintenance done at the dealer?
I am more than capable of doing it all on my own - but I don't want to risk warranty legalities in the process. Dealers and MFR's will always try and find an 'out' where they can in the event of an issue...

General Discussion / Acceleration Pause/Stutter
November 06, 2021, 07:14:39 PM
Hello,
I have a new 2022 800XC.
Picked it up this past Tuesday. I have about 3.5hrs of operating time and have noticed a strange occurrence over the past few times I have rode the bike (all riding to this point has been on pavement as I am breaking in the motor for the first 3-5 hours in on-road conditions). The oddity I am experiencing is as follows:
From a dead stop, when taking off under very light throttle - the bike will start to move and then for just a brief moment (like a quarter of a second or less), there is a pause and then the bike resumes normal accel. Its similar to running a machine on an almost empty gas tank, where the fuel supply is cut off momentarily and then returns once the fuel swishes back and continues feeding the gas line (my gas tank is full).
After that initial pause the acceleration is normal at all RPMs (there is no delay, pause or interrupted power delivery after the initial take off one as described).
The situation only happens immediately following take off when applying light throttle. From a full stop but under harder accel I can still hear/feel the slight cut off but its virtually unperceptable though still there even but very faint and hardly noticeable.
Is this normal, or a symptom of the EVAP system maybe?
By all other accounts the bike runs perfectly.
At a loss as to what this could be - and wondering if the bike needs to have the ECU re-flashed, or could this be a sign of a bad or faulty TPS?

General Discussion / Cargo Box Attachment
November 04, 2021, 01:10:26 AM
Hello CFM peeps,
Does anyone know where I can get a small cargo box that fits on the passenger seat mounts, when the passenger seat is removed?
Reason being twofold...I want a bit of storage add-on without adding a bulky bin/box on the racks.
Secondly - the absence of the passenger seat leaves a very unsightly attachment mechanism with lots of open spaces for things to either come up through, or go down in.
Here is a picture of what I am looking for, as seen on the CF Moto Mud Edition a few years back.

Introduce Yourself and Your Ride / First Time CFM Owner
November 02, 2021, 04:45:51 PM
Hello folks
First time CFM owner - picking up my bike tomorrow (2022 CForce 800XC).
Had and still have my reservations about CFM...but all signs point to massive improvements over the past few years. To that end, time will tell.
Good to be part of the CFM entourage, let the fun begin!
