ZForce 950/1000 Sport & EX / Idle surging
May 16, 2021, 10:51:21 PM
2021 950 sport. Upon start up during riding while warm, idle will be normal 1250-1500. Suddenly surge to 3500 for about 5 seconds and settle down. This is right after start up, but not a cold start. Engine already at running temp and been running fine. So normal, surge, normal. No rough idle or puttering, starts normal, random surge (where you can't engage a gear due to the revs too high), then back to normal. Doesn't do this on cold starts.

Few things I have noticed with it: battery voltage will show in the 13s or 12s, and in the time it takes to rev it will get back to the normal 14.2 it's always at, then stop revving. Maybe unrelated who knows.
Already had the recall done for the throttle previous to purchasing from dealer. Throttle pedal is not stuck when it does it, it's all the way up and not being pressed at all.

Any ideas what would cause the random surge?

Hey all.

We currently have a 2020 Can Am Mav Trail 1000 that we purchased in November of 19 and its approaching 1500 miles on it. I honestly didn't think my spouse would love riding as much as me so I am pleased that we have been able to go pretty much every weekend since we bought it.

Well now we are contemplating getting a second machine so we can both drive and take our other dog with us as well. When we were shopping originally we test drove Rzr's, Wildcats, Zforce's and the Can Am. I actually really liked the Zforce's value proposition as well as not as many folks here have them and I like having stuff not everyone else does. However, my spouse was in love with the comfort and quietness of the Mav and we haven't regretted getting that one.

Now that we are shopping for what will probably be my machine, I would like to get a Zforce as I can get one brand new for the price of a used Wildcat, Rzr, and you can't even find used Mav's here yet. HOWEVER, the one thing that has really made me hesitant on the Zforce is the noise. I'm not exactly sure if its from the belt/trans or the Diff. Each Zforce I have driven has been the 800 and as soon as you start accelerating it starts winding up to a high pitched howl or whine. Thats what kind of made me think its the belt/cvt. BUT I have also seen a few of the Cforce around and even a Z1000 and I didn't notice that loud of a whine from them. Sure you could hear it a bit, but nowhere near as loud. I stumbled upon a few threads on here about the noises, but I would like to know if any of you have found the actual cause or a good way to combat it? I have seen some have found as easy as changing their diff fluid, some have done full on diff rebuilds, and some say its just the belt/cvt. I can't really see it being just the belt though, because CVTech is a pretty well known brand and I haven't seen any of their other products having that same amount of noise and whine.

Is there something that can be done to quiet down the howl or is it something you are just stuck with on these models? I don't expect a SxS to be quiet, but I'd rather hear the vtwin then this very annoying whining haha.
