ZForce 500/550 / Clearing check engine light
October 25, 2023, 08:01:29 AM
CEL started flashing a while ago when my 550 jumped timing. She is all rebuilt now and running like a dream, but the CEL is still flashing...

Will this clear itself? Is there a way to clear it without the reader?

I saw something somewhere about jumping some pins on something to clear it but I can't remember where in the manual I found this...

Thanks for any help.

Same thread as the CVT cover bolts. Cut it super short (1/4") and it's working great

ZForce 500/550 / Timing tensioner screw
October 19, 2023, 01:46:30 PM
Hey all. Just changed the timing tensioner during a top end rebuild and the old tensioner got thrown away with the cap/screw.

Now the new tensioner spits oil out of the hole in it.

Does anyone know the thread and size of the screw that plugs the hole?

Thanks.

Still in the process now. had to wait for a few tools and parts to arrive from the US (clutch tool & new clutch bearings) Old chain was pretty stretched and the chain guides also worn to shizzz so im hoping replacing all of these corrects the issue even though the new chain and sprocket still are not perfect... fingers crossed for many more miles.

also, side note. there is a little plastic guide in the lower end, just under the timing chain. When i opened the case up, this guide was sitting on the bottom of the block.. is this plastic guide necesary or just more of a saftey precaution incase you let go of the chain when doing head work?

i dont know if this piece came off from the work im doing, or fell off a while ago and could be causing me problems! can i leave this part off?

All the non-wet clutch versions need a puller to get the inner sheave and spindle to separate from the crank shaft. A service manual would have had that info. Every owner should have one. This is that puller and you can find it a little cheaper in other places:

Thank you! I have a service manual, I didn't see it mention a chapter for the clutch removal but ill look again. Thanks for the link

Thanks for the help. Out comes the engine.
My only concern going in to this is the primary sheave. should is come right off when unbolted? is a tool required like on a snowmobile?
I've never had a clutch separate like this CF one in to two sheaves, so whats the easiest way to remove that fixed sheave? thanks.

Thanks for that info. No this is not a new chain. Just a new timing sprocket. Didn't get the chain yet as they didn't have it in stock and I was hoping I didn't need to change it.

Do you have a photo of what the chain and sprocket are supposed to look like when they are sitting perfectly together?

Thanks.

That was my fear. This new sprocket looks a lot better, but doesn't sit in the chain correctly as you mentioned it should.

Lovely.

Has this chain problem been corrected? Is there something special I need to pay attention to when ordering the chain? I'd had to pull it all apart just to end up with the same mismatched chain.

Thanks.

Got my head back. All cleaned and new valves, got a new timing sprocket as well, my question is do you think this spacing in the chain and sprocket is acceptable or do I need a chain as well?

Not looking forward to pulling the block 😓

Dealer told me they have never encountered such a problem and can't find anything about the issue.. so guess I'm SOL there.
going to get a new sprocket and see if the timing chain sits better. If it doesn't, going to pull the engine so I can do the chain as well.

I say take it to your dealer and let them sort it out.

ughhhh. okay...
Thank you for all the help!
all you do here is much appreciated. I also found a clean service manual for the 500/550 in all my digging/searching for parts and such. If you're interested, PM me.
