My remote winch works well so far. The biggest problem is the part on the ATV draws current all the time and it has to be on a maintainer whenever it is stored. I think the remote on/off only saves the battery on the fob, otherwise, how would the control box ever know the fob is on?
I don't think radio waves penetrate water easily. The control box might need to be mounted high enough to stay dry when it's needed.
You didn't go into detail about the problems you had with the winches. Mine has a little bit of a delayed reaction compared to the instant on/off/reverse of hard wired controls. It can get confusing if the cable is loose enough to snag on the drum and try to wind up the wrong way instead of letting out slack.
