Newbie (to CF Moto) in New Mexico
« on: October 19, 2019, 11:52:29 PM »
Just purchased my first CF Moto, a 2019 Cforce 800xc. Already own Kawasaki and Polaris ATV’s and a RZR. Looking forward to learning everything I can about my new machine.

Welcome. I also am in NM. Get the Unifilter on it right away and give it a few extra oil changes at first. It should serve you well.

Looks like a oil coated foam filter, the dealer (Bobby J's in Albuquerque) told me that they replaced the factory paper filter with a oil coated foam filter, should I still go with the Unifilter?

If they use the CFM foam filter, it still will let too much get by up here...especially in our talc areas. Pop the cover and take a look. If it's blue/green, its a CFM filter. If it's red, chances are it's a Unifilter. The #1 killer of these...and most any other off-road engine is particle ingestion. Its either a slow.. or fast death. I prefer to do my best at taking that out of the equation completely.. so I'm running two Unifilters on my Z. They are tested and proven the one of the best so make sure yours has one.

I will take a look and see what it looks like it has.  Thank you for the suggestion, certainly don't need it dying on my that way.  Haven't taken it out yet, has less than 3 miles on it. Again, thanks for the heads up!

I checked, the filter was blue.  I ordered a Unifilter for it.  I have a couple of questions, the instructions weren't overly clear, I'm guessing the outer red foam part is what gets oiled, not the inner yellow piece.  My Kawasaki is a oiled foam filter, but one piece and my other other experience is with K&N filters, that are one piece.  Is this correct? When do you advise the first oil change and do you recommend going with a synthetic oil?
Thanks for your help.

On the filter- all of it gets treated, inner and outer. Massage it all the way through. You can separate the sections.  First oil change should be far sooner then the book says and not synthetic just yet. I would change it to a good JASO rated conventional at 200 miles then go to a good JASO rated at maybe 600. Not earlier.

Thank you for the info, I really appreciate your help.  I have a feeling a lot of things on the CF Moto are going to be new to me.

The biggest thing for us out here is first protect it from our fine dust. We have so much of it and it can get through most anything. Particle ingestion in the #1 killer of these...and most other off-road machines.  The rest is mostly common sense and preventative maintenance...or at least better-then-average maintenance habits.
