For engine oil the TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS state to use SAE 15W/40 SG for my 2023 800 XC.
I did a search for this and found this info: "What does SG oil mean?
SG -Obsolete, not suitable for engines built after 1993.
Can anyone tell me why the manual says to use this grade and what grade is the right one.

Thank you in advance

The manuals are full of inaccuracies, translation mis-prints and in many cases different specs on the same item in different places. You are always safe to use a quality oil formulated for use in your type of engine...ie ATV,UTV or Motorcycle and you can use 0,5,10 or 15W40. Just stay with the W40. Also after break-in feel free to use a synthetic with the same ratings..minus the SG...lol. Its always best to also include the JASO MA2 rating as well.

Shell Rotella 15w40 is your huckleberry.  Very available at your parts store or Walmart.  My unit is new, so I am using T4 15w40 conventional during the breakin.  Then about 2,000 miles in... I will switch to T6 Synthetic 15w40 going forward.

It's a beast of an oil and way cheaper than the $20 a quart from the Stealer.
