After moving back to a mountainous area, and going for a ride on my buddies Polaris 800 Razr S I have been looking into side by sides. I am a motorcycle, sport atv rider with a in depth knowledge of mechanics. I know the Razr had its fair share of problems, alot may be due to abuse/neglect/ like anything, but I am unfamiliar with the CF Moto name.

My cousin recently told me about the CF Moto Z 800 and I found the Z800EX to be more in my wheel house (sport atv guy here) There are many features I find desireable on the Z800ex, like the digital dash, horn, mirrors, headlights, winch, bumpers, nice tires, and wheels, etc....Does the CFMoto come with a title that allows registration for road use? What are some of the common failures found in this model? Any issues with engines failing, wheel bearings,a arms, or axles? How do the Z800EX shocks stack up compared to the FOX shocks on the Razr S?

1. They are titled but if your state doesn't allow off-road vehicles on roads then you are restricted to off-road use.
2. Lots of posts here on issues but most are not common. Some would be air filters, fan switches, loose bolts, speed sensors...ect
3. Some engines fail. True with most makers. Most go on for many miles. Same for the rest of the drive train. Operator error make for most of the other problems, warranty takes care of the rest.
4. They have fair quality gas shocks and in most cases they last well. They are not, nor ever will be the quality of an Elka, Fox or Walker. They do have all the necessary adjustability though.

Welcome to the forum!!! All machines have their pros and cons.  Only had a few minor issues with mine but honestly LOVE IT!!! Any questions feel free to ask, great people here and a wealth of knowledge.

Most common problem is loose bolts. I do have a shock that is leaking a little around the top. The dealer is checking to see if it' still under warranty or if I waited too long. That would be my fault if I did, because I knew about it for  while before I said anything.

Thanks for the info guys. It turns out the CFMoto dealer couldnt finance my cousin because a nasty divorce and the Yamaha dealer could. So he ended up with the Wolverine R spec. I am still on the fence but do like the R Spec too.

It's all about preference. I've owned Yamaha also and can't bash them too bad. Best advice, get what you can afford and like.

I almost bought an R-Spec. I mainly chose the ZForce because of the bigger engine and the lower price. I've never rode a Wolverine, so I don't know if I made the best choice or not. I do like all the storage space on the Yamaha. I wish I had all that space on my Z.

Well, I can afford to go with any of this 3, The Wolverine R Spec LE edition, the CF Moto Z800EX, or the Polaris Razr S 900

The one thing that I cant afford to do, is buy one, hate it, and lose money on a trade off. I need to spend right the first time. Dirt roads, and technical eastern trails will be the main usage. I would also like to be able to move around light loads on a utility trailer, or park my empty box trailer with whatever I choose.

I am gonna take a road trip and go riding on the R Spec soon, and try and get a test ride on the Z800EX. I rode in the Razr S 800cc last week, it was ok. Power wasnt impressive, and the shocks on the particualar one I rode in was beat so the ride wasnt impressive either.

Reliability, ease of maintainance, low speed usage without overheating, and something that doesnt require me to modify it for normal use right out of the box. I have read that an air filter upgrade and pre filter are mandatory on the CFMOTO, as well as checking a arm bolts and wheel bearing nuts.

I was quoted a great price on the R Spec LE Edition, only about 2k more than the CFMOTO, and the LE has beadlocks,Quality Tires, full skids, and a few other additions. Still no winch, but it does include a roof top.

Having owned both a Z800EX and now a RZR 900 S I can say that the suspension on the RZR is hands-down in a league of it's own when you compare them.  The power on my RZR isn't night and day difference, but is noticeably stronger as well.

I would most definitely not base any of your opinion on the RZR 800 S as it's a completely different machine since the 15 and newer 900 models were redesigned from the ground up to replace the 800 model.  I'd go with the Z800EX over a RZR 800 S if those were my options, but the 900 is an entirely different animal.

Whichever you choose enjoy it and feel free to stay in on the conversation with us.

This is exactly the kind of info I am looking for. Thank You The Razr S I spent time on was a 2012 Razr S 800 that lived a hard life. Is the z800ex suspension better than the 12 Razr S 800 suspension?
