Hey all, just purchased Z 800, was hoping for good things with CF. Took machine out, put 8kms  on it, started to make a tapping/loose noise, only at an idle, but, when slowing down, it would stall. When trying to start, with brake on, and in gear, would just barely turn over, and want to lunge forward. Ended up making it back to truck, loaded it, and took it back to dealer, the next afternoon. Waiting to get it back, stopped in, the next day, they said it was a bearing in the clutch assembly. Hope it is not a lemon!

Wow, that's not a great start at all. I am new too, so welcome. I haven't put any mileage on mine yet, but hope to in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully the dealer gets things sorted out and it is clear sailing from here on out.

Sounds like the one way clutch went bad (some call it a bearing because it looks like one) and that's what makes the motor spin over free from driving until it's revved, but engages when the vehicle is off throttle and moving, for engine braking.
A bad one way clutch also explains why it would crank slowly, and would grind like heck when running and you try to put it into gear.
A bad part failed soon into its life. Good to get it out of the way. I hope too that it isn't a bad omen. If it cheers you at all my 800 trail has been trouble free going on 2000 Km now.
