Loving the 800 Trail
« on: April 09, 2020, 09:29:51 PM »
I've had my 2018 Trail for a little over a year and loving it.  After reading so many helpful posts on the forum I thought I should join, introduce myself and tell everyone here thank you for all the insights.  I'd especially like to thank NMKawierider for all your inspiring videos.  I followed your example for the snorkels and they look great.

I've done a couple of multi day cross country camping trips up in the cascades.  Ended up adding a 2nd gas tank as I came close to running out a couple times.  Now I have an extra 7 gallons.

Next I need to get some skid plates.  I've been looking at the ricochet offroad aluminum/plastic hybrid.  I've read that it reduces some of the noise from the all aluminum.  Is it enough to justify the extra cost?

I have the belly plates and rock sliders from Ricochet and I don't find them any louder than the original plastic plate. And I appreciate the added protection of the aluminum when i'm bouncing off obstacles.

How did you add a second fuel tank?  Pictures?

Welcome to the forum...and thanks :) Glad to help where I can. On the skids..not sure if there is a big enough difference but I can't say yet. I was thinking of going with the Iron Baltic's but either one will be a top-shelf product.

I welded up some 3/16 steel and attached it to the roof mounting points right behind the cab.  The welds aren't perfect but it was my first ever welding attempt.  I ran a gas line down to the original gas cap with a shut off and transfer pump behind the passenger seat under the back cab panel.  There is also a filter right before the pump to protect it.  The switch I put under the e-brake.  The line is detachable from the gas cap with a quick connector.

Yeah we lost the server a while back and just don't have everything back yet...but the owner, Jason, is working on it.

I sent doug80638 a dropbox link to the pictures.  I can send it to anyone else that would like to see them.  Otherwise I'll post them once that functionality returns to the forum.

I have a '17 800 Trail and the Ricochet aluminum/plastic plate set. Not cheap but an excellent addition. I have a set of Iron Baltic on my King Quad and I`d have ordered a set for the CFM but at the time at least, they didn`t sell a set for the trail model. I doubt you`d go wrong with either set
