First time owner of CFMOTO
« on: July 19, 2018, 02:27:11 PM »
Hello,

My name is Brad and I just bought a 2018 CFMOTO 1000 Zforce. I have not driven it yet. I am picking it up the first of August. I can’t wait! I got some upgrades on it including front and rear bush bumpers, roof, rock sliders(nerf bars) and a full aluminum skid plat.

I am not new to the ATV and off road scene. I also own a 2013 Can Am Outlander 1000 max xt with a lot of  factory bolt on upgrades as well as many custom upgrades that I did myself. But the Zforce is my first side by side. I am hoping I made the right choice by buying a CFMOTO. I do not know anyone personally that owns one. I just stumbled on to CFMOTO because I was board and looking things up on the internet. Everything that I have learned so far seems to be very good.

I think that the reasons I decided to go with CFMOTO is the price compared to other brands and that I am kind of sick of can am. When I say I am sick of can am I mean that I don’t think they are worth the very big price tags that come with them and there was things that  war out or stopped working that should not have as soon as they did, in my opinion. It screamed cheap to me. For example, I had to replace all of my shocks and springs after the 2nd year. They got very soft. I was not EVER hard on my Can am. I never jumped it or road it hard and or fast on  rough trails. And there was other things but that is the one that pissed me off the most. So CFMOTO’s price tags looked much better to me. At first I had the thought like a lot of people “CFMOTO is not a well known brand, they are a  Chinese company...”. But then I started to learn that they make engines for other very well known companies. Then I thought why be so down on the fact of them being a “Chinese company”. I would guess that MOST of the parts on my Can Am are made in China....lol.

So like I said, I hope I made the right choice by buying a CFMOTO but only time can answer that I guess. Is there anything that anyone can tell me about these machines? Like anything I should watch for or cool upgrades and where to get them.

Welcome and congrats. The 1000 is an evolution of the 800 with all the quirks of the 800 addressed and we hope- eliminated. So far everyone that bought one has been very happy. As with all CFMs though you will want to do two things before even taking it out the first time. The first and most important is..get that factory air filter out of there. Most do NOT filter below 30 microns and that's like filtering out the gravel but not the sand..well, not that bad but you get the point. We recommend the Unifilter and a quality treatment. Not sure if the 1000 takes the same filter as the 800 but someone here should know. The other thing is-take a few minutes and check all the suspension, steering and component-related bolts for correct torque. Much gets missed at the factory sometimes. The rest is common sense and I suggest at least one extra oil change before the first one is due..say in 50 -75 miles. 95% of the break in will have been done by then and it's best to get that out and a fresh oil filter in. JMO :)

Awesome, thanks! But one question. What do you mean when you say a good treatment?

Just a quality foam filter oil which some call "treatment" as it is actually more then just an oil.

Welcome from BC  :)

The Canadian Air Filter is good quality, the hit miss is if it is oiled. That needs to be checked & should be done @ PDI. If you want to be sure check it your self  ;D There are differences between countries how units are delivered from the factory, as example we don't get a roof. We do get 4 points harnesses, signal's, four way's, horn a mirror's.

Break In service is 300KM, engine oil & filter & both diff's are to have the oil changed.

Your comments on the Can Am are interesting, the previous chassis was bad for diving in the front. Your newer 2013 has geometry to correct that, were the factory shock's rebuild-able & adjustable?

I've no real seat time in the new Z1000, however I've spent some time with it. CFMOTO's best execution of they product yet.
ZF 800 LX Trail, stock for now.......not for long.

No, the shocks on my Can am we’re not adjustable. And with the  suspension it came with it would dive in the front. I put the none adjustable fox shocks on it and it made a huge difference. It handled WAY better.

I thought that’s what you meant. I just wanted to be sure. Thanks

Hey Brad, welcome to the forum. Which part of Canada are you from?
I would be interested in your comments once you get a feel and some experience with the 1000. I too, come from a Can-am background and was attracted by the price. I think you will quickly learn that a CFMoto is nowhere near the build quality of the Canam and hence the price difference. As mentioned earlier, check everything over before your first ride. I think you will find many flaws, especially loose fasteners.
Throw the owners manual in the garbage that came with your machine. It is just a copy of a previous model with a new cover on it. Use the on-line service manual instead. You can see my thread in the 1000 section regarding the screw-up in the manual regarding changing the oil.

Best of luck with your new purchase.
