Another newbie on a 700 CL-X Heritage
« on: November 19, 2022, 08:52:07 PM »
Good evening everybody! I got my 700 CL-X on October 14th, 2022 after a long 20 years without riding due to a head injury. I stumbled onto reviews by some top motorcycle magazines and parts website revzilla.

I initially went in to look at Papio, was given pre-approval on financing, and on the day I was due to pick it up I realized it was silly to pay so much for a vehicle I couldn't take on the Thruway. As a fluke I said "see if they'll finance the 700" and they did! So I did!

As of 11/19 I've got 4004 mostly back twisty roads mostly because they're more fun than the pin straight NYS Thruway. Well and partly because these old hands can't keep the throttle at  highway speeds for long. And partly because I've been afflicted with what I've learned is the somewhat common failure of the Reverse Gear Indicator Sensor. This causes the cluster to switch back and forth from 1st to 6th gear which, as it rightly should, disactivates the cruise control thinking it's in 1st gear. It was pretty unsettling the first time it happened as I was cruising at 78mph when the front end dipped. Since then it has only happened above 65mph so I'm enjoying the slower roads until the replacement comes in.

The response of people has been overall positive and I start sounding like a sales rep when I start listing all the world class companies who partnered with CFMOTO for this definitely NOT Chinese junk, bike.
2nd set of Pirellis and over 7,700 miles since October 14th over 160 hours with an average speed of of only 41mph on mostly back country winding twisty roads in Catskills portion of the Appalachian Mountains Upstate New York State.

Thanks! I was first introduced to CFMOTO through CycleWorld and Rider Magaine reviews. In my first very short YT video my title asked if I was the first or only US owner because I couldn't find any non international, US dealer or so-called YT influencers & review. This was because there is little to no consistency or uniform naming throughout their global branding. Some countries have it flopped with and without the space and hyphen like CLX 700, CL-X700, 700CLX, 700 CL-X etc. It's a shame that more owners of this new product line aren't coming forward.

I happened to flag down some guys creeping along my road on an old Triumph and Norton because I used to own a rigid pre-unit Norton with a girder front end and just wanted to chat. It turned out to be a father and son who lived .2 of a mile from me on a reverse cul-de-sac road I had never been down in the 19 years where I am and they rarely come out on my side. They had no problem with this bike and the following weekend asked me to take a cruise with them among a Honda GoldWing, a CBR1100, the Norton and Triumph. It seems that more riders are more open-minded these days and even a few of the HD diehards couldn't find much fault with a Chinese bike that has less Chinese components than their American or Japanese bikes.
