Last week, I traded in my 500 for an 800. During my second ride, I pulled over, stopped, and suddenly lost throttle response. Thinking it might be a throttle position sensor issue, I shut the bike off, put it in park, but all I heard was clicking. I tried putting it in neutral—same thing, just clicking.

At first, I thought it could be a battery issue, but that doesn’t explain the sudden throttle loss.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, what’s the fix?

It’s still under warranty, but I’m quite far from a dealer, so I'd prefer to troubleshoot this myself if possible.

Check the battery connections...dealers forget to tighten them sometimes. If tight and the battery is charged...I would get it in asap.

Thanks I did note after putting a charger on the battery it was sitting at 60%.

Also took the gas peddle out and serviced it the best I could. Looks new honestly but cleaned what I could and added dielectric grease to the connection. Just to keep any moisture out. Not that I drive in the lake but I like mud!
Tested and it started and the peddle is responding now. So we will see, I’ll also take the battery out clean it up and tighten connections. Just snowed here so might be a day or two before I get to that.

Thanks

So I charged the battery and took it for a 15 minute ride and the battery dropped to 80% which I think tells me it has a bad cell maybe? I did manage to get it to 100% full. I think it needs a new battery and maybe I will buy a maintainer for it as winter is almost here. Could be the charging system as well but everything looks good and seems to be putting out the required volts

Thoughts?

Always keep them on a maintainer when not in use. Charge that battery and have it load tested. If bad, replace it but the charging system should keep up with the draw so it may have a bad stator or rectifier/regulator. Manual shows how to test them. But a fast way is to use a multimeter set to DC. Test the charged battery after it has been off the charger for a while. Should read 12.6-12.9 volts. Then start it and bring it up to or above 2200RPM. It should read 14.4-14.9 volts. If it is much less, like 13.9 or less, there is an issue.
