2017 Should I wait?
« on: July 28, 2016, 05:07:08 AM »
Hi y'all! New to the forum here. I currently have an old 97 kaw 300 and need an upgrade. I don't go mudding or even trail ridding. All I need is a strong machine for utility and towing around the property. I don't know much about cfmoto but with what I have read on here and the price I'm willing to give them a try. I am considering getting a new cf500ho but before I order one I was wondering if anyone knows when the 2017 models will be released, will there be any changes to the new model and will there be a price change??

I know this is no help but I have not heard anything about model changes.
I can imagine a world completely at peace.  A world where there are no weapons, no war, and no violence at all.  And I can imagine us taking over that world because they would never expect it.

I hear that! I have decided to order in a 2016. Now I have seen on here many times y'all are talking about changing the air filter immediately. Being cfmoto knows about the problem do you think it will already be fixed this late in the year? Is there anything else y'all can think of that I need to check, replace, or upgrade immediately after I pick it up? I want to make sure I get started off on the right foot to minimize any issues later. And how many hours or miles should I do my first oil change? Anytime I start running something new I always do the first oil change at half or less of the regular recommend intervals.

I don't know about the 500 and it's air filter but if it can be replaced with a quality foam filter I would change it before even taking it out the first time because. I would also check as many bolts on the drive train and suspension as possible as many have found some in all areas loose. And I'm like you in break-in because 90+% of the break-in happens within the first 30 minutes of running, most of the big stuff is already in the oil and filter by them so...change it within the first few hours of running. Then one more in about 100 miles before going your normal schedule. You will want to do the diffs but as there is no wet brakes or friction disks to wear-in, you can wait...about 50-75 miles for the first one. After that I would just do it by the book....or as you think it should.

I'm still on the original air filter, and I haven't an issue. I've rode it in sand, dust and mud with no issues other than a little oil on the bottom on the air box. Not a lot though, My oil still reads full.

Great to hear about your decision on Uforce 500HD.  I too have my UForce 500 mostly for utility work.  I replace a Kubota L-1500 tractor and trailer for hauling/moving/and general upkeep on my property.  My Uforce is perfect for everything I need to do and plenty strong to pull my 12ft trailer when cutting firewood or tree removal.  The BONUS is my wife can and is now willing to go me too.  I was not prepared for the loud engin noise, so I've been working on applying foam panels where I can. I also have the 1/2 windshield and it works incredibly well at all speeds.  When cruzing at speeds up to 40mph hardly any wind hits me in the face.  However, in the summer months this awesome wind blocking works against you because of the heat given off by the motor.  Without the circulation, the heat can get a bit annoying, however this summer problem will soon become a great asset in the cooler or even cold winter months.  So if just removed the windshield and now riding really cool but must wear my glasses when cruzing around with my wife.  You'll want to also search out a trailer hitch extension adapter for your machine due to the positioning of the muffler restricting the trailer ball spacing.  I absolutely love my Moto for all farm & propery maintace needs and my wife enjoyes just cruzing around the area with me.

I think every year will be slightly better that its predecessor so I'd say if it's something you want/need now then go for it. CFM is really good with any "updates" that find to be an issue. So even if they find something and make it better you can usually take it in for the upgraded part. I know I did with the rear shocks.

Thanks again for everyone's input! The more info I have going into this purchase the better I feel. Every time I mention getting a cfmoto to one of my friends they ask if I'm really going to trust a Chinese machine over a brand name. But with all the input you guys have been posting and looking at other posts about issues others are having I really don't see any major problems. I really hope it turns out to be a good investment. Hopefully they will have it ready this week and I can go pick it up Saturday and start my own first hand experience!

Pretty sure your going to enjoy it a lot. I was a bit skeptical at first, but after 400 miles on it, it's been a good machine. I have the 500 HP EPS 2Up machine. Now the wife wants a side by side, so in time it could happen.

Ask your buddies, which brand of SXS has 0 issues, never breaks, and never had a recall.
Just wondering so I can trade my "Chinese machine" for THAT brand.  Lol

Fact is they're ALL perfect and ALL junk.
Before something breaks "This things awesome!!!!"
After something breaks. " This F()@&!ng piece of $h!t"

Add in: driver care, preventative maintenance , riding style, riding environment , knowledge of what each can handle, and some helpful friends and you'll find that that same basic problems are across the board no matter what brand.

Most common across ALL brands seems to be shocks, and mainly it's because everyone thinks they're RJ Anderson when they get behind the wheel.

If I jump a Bentley off a 15ft jump and it destroys it, that mean Bentleys are junk??

To each their own, just tired of hearing "Chinese junk" because the ones that spent $20K+ feel stupid saying yeah their brand has problems too.
