Ujoints and carrier bearings
« on: April 29, 2022, 03:21:36 PM »
Hi folks, I'm new to this forum. Just today I started to work on my 2017 Zforce 800. It is making noise from the drive shaft area, and as it turns out I need to replace my carrier/hanger bearings and 2 ujoints. I am posting this because I found non-Cfmoto parts. The bearings are metric 6205 RS bearings available from both of my local auto parts stores (at half the price). The ujoints are 22 X50 mm and are available from the Ujoint Store as parts for Motoguzzi part# TUS-3MG.....and these  come with grease fittings! I would buy from Cfmoto, but, delivery is spotty at best. If there is a list of alternate parts and suppliers I'd appreciate knowing where to find it. Thanks and good riding!

Really good info, as I suspect my carrier bearings need replacing. After all, 3 of 4 wheel bearings were toast last year at 10,500 Km. It happens. Thanks for the tip and yes, a master list of compatible alternatives to CF Moto parts would be much welcomed.

Update: I ordered and received the TUS-3MG u joints from Jason at The U Joint Store. (Heck of a nice and helpful guy)
Unfortunately I found that no matter what I did, the second C clip would not go in its groove in the yoke. I measured the new and old U joints and found that the original U joints were 22 mm x 50 mm, while the new U joint though listed as being 22 x 50, it actually measures 50.25 mm across the caps and 50.5 MM across the caps on the side where one cap is equipped with the grease fitting! The trunions are firmly bottomed out in the caps, the assembled U joint is just half a C clip thickness too long (wide).

I did find an aftermarket u joint listed for 'Motor Guzzi' that states it is 22 mm x 50.3 mm.

Is that what the U joint store has? Are my yokes a tighter fit than others?
My industrial supplier says this true 22 x 50 must be a proprietary size.
In any case I just wanted to caution buyers.
Looks like it's CF Moto OEM for me

Can you either grind the ends of the caps slightly or make the claps thinner...or a bit of both? Cap metal is pretty think..I'm sure enough could be taken off all to make it work. Trick is to do it evenly and and the right amount..like each half the total difference between the new and old joints.

I had to use a belt sander on the caps and take off material judiciously. Noted too, the spring clips supplied by CFM are thinner in section than the Moto Guzzi clips and that helps.
