Shift lever on Zforce 800
« on: May 14, 2018, 11:52:56 PM »
I have a 2017 Zforce 800 Trail. I have been having issues with the shift lever. There is like a plastic band that is attached to the shift lever. I think it is to help keep dust out of the shifting mechanism. This band has become bunched up and now when I shift it into park it will fold up and bunch up. When it does it tends to lift up the shift lever cover. I've had to replace the cover once (this was not entirely due to the band but a couple of the tabs broke off.) Has anyone else experienced this? I think it's a rather poor design. I'm about ready to cut that band off where it bunches (folds) up but then it won't cover up the hole. However it doesn't cover it anyway since it folds up. Any ideas? It would be much appreciated.  This is one of the biggest complaints I have with the unit. Other than that I love the machine.

Mine's starting to do the same thing, but doesn't quite bunch up.  I wonder if a different material might be the answer.  Maybe just a flat piece of plastic instead of the one that is pleated.

Yeah it's junk, I thought of maybe trying to line the back side with duct tape.....like so many other projects Ha!

The piece is available separately, get your dealer to wtty one & play with it  :)

Yeah I thought about replacing it but I think it's a poor design and I have a feeling it would just end up doing the same thing. I would have liked to see that shift lever cover screw down also instead of using those tabs

Part of the problem with the cover is the lever may hit it. Back to shifter & gate align that has been discussed in other threads.

The shifter deal is cheesy & it feels that way. I adjusted a Canned Ham 650 XT Max Quad shifter linkage today....what a difference in feel because everything was solid & precise.

yes it is a pain. my 2017 800 is doing the same thing and popping the cover off when shifting into park. lifted the cover up and adjusted the black band to the outside of the grove slot that the band is meant to go into. so far seams to be doing much better

When mine broke..like the second day I had it... I just cut another strip out of a 5-gallon bucket except a bit linger so it hung down a bit farther on both sides. Works great..wish I could have had a black bucket in the shop at the time but white is OK.

That's not a bad idea. I might have to try that.

Yeah mine broke the first day..replaced it with that bucket strip and still in there going on 4-years now.

I'll bet a black one of those cutting board covers would be a good source of material. I have the same bunching and I cut the offending part off.
