Last year my '17 800 started to fail to idle every once in a while. Not always, it might idle perfectly any number of times but now and then poof, won't hold an idle.
I suspect the usual suspect, the idle air control valve and I intend to just get one and throw it in, but I wonder if this fail mode has been the experience of others on this forum (or off for that matter). Is this how others' have behaved? Thanks.

I haven't had the experience yet but some on other sites have had them start to bind and stick from probably particle intrusion causing everything from non-idle to erratic idle..  where others have had them just fail electrically and stop opening at all.

Thanks. I haven't found the other guy's eBay $18.00 valve and the way mine fails to idle and then later 'heals' itself and works more often than not, suggests either a sticking plunger or a poor electrical contact. I think first I'll take it apart and see what I can see. Thanks for the help.

Yeah some have had good luck cleaning them...although not sure how they did it. Probably some carb spray or contact cleaner in a can.

Update: I found and ordered an eBay replacement IACV for cheap, thanks to another member's DM.

In the meantime I removed and cleaned the faulty one with spray brake cleaner. It's a stepper motor, not a sensor so that's OK.
As it happened the cleaning must have had effect because it hasn't malfunctioned since and lazy as I am, now that it's working properly I don't see a need to swap it out for the new one. So I have a spare.
