EPS issue
« on: December 04, 2023, 12:03:15 PM »
I'm new to 4wheelers, having had mine for about 2 months (and maybe 10 miles) now.
2017 CForce 500HO with 160 miles.

I have this setup with a rack in the back in the receiver to help me haul deer out of the woods. I was using it for this purpose last weekend in a soggy muddy field when something changed with the steering. I don't know anything about the steering components, but like to think I'm somewhat mechanically inclined. Prior to this, the left and right steering with both smooth and easy, requiring little effort to turn. This day though, left worked as it should, but turning the handlebars right required some effort. Almost like the EPS was not active / engaged to the right, while it was to the left.

Where should I start to troubleshoot this? For what it's worth, I weight about 200, and at the time had a deer in the back weighing about 125.

Having a 125-lb deer hanging out on the rear receiver would have cantilevered weight off the front and made it much lighter then normal so load on the P/S would have been far less...unless you did have something on the front rack that exceeded the load limits. Anyway, having it steer easy or normal one way and not the other is a sign of a problem with the torque-bar in the main system or a wet connector. Open the connectors to the main unit and the control module and look for water or a problem with a pin. As for the main unit...I am going to say you should take it in for that...and expect to buy a new unit. If it can be fixed..great! The other thing that causes this type of problem is a bad outer CV joint so check them.
