General Discussion / I like this forum
« on: September 18, 2016, 06:54:29 PM »
I'm on other forums and seems there is zero follow through. Someone asks for help, a bunch of you give suggestions,  then nothing. Seems like that doesn't happen as often here.

General Discussion / Adjustable throttle lever
« on: September 07, 2016, 08:46:15 PM »
My hands are bad so they hurt pretty quickly. To make riding more tolerable I have designed and built a adjustable throttle lever for my canam. I made two styles. One hooked and another with a larger arc. They pivot at the stem so you can set it so your hand sits in a more natural position.they drop right in place of the oem lever.

General Discussion / Tricking the ecu
« on: September 04, 2016, 08:47:42 PM »
Just thinking out loud here, but is it possible to trick the ecu to run a little bit richer. I did this before with a car that ran rich. I put a resistor on the air temperature sensor so it thought it was very hot out so it trimmed the fuel back a little.

ZForce 600EX/600 / CVT Filter box
« on: August 31, 2016, 10:32:54 PM »
I am working on making an alum. filter box with cover for the CVT that fits behind the drivers seat. I think I will start with an air filter for the newer Subaru's. They are easy to find, are a good size and have a prefilter over the pleats. My question is how may of the Z6 owners would be interested it one? I don't think they will be over $200 and I may get better pricing from the local fab shops if I want more than just one. I don't have the resources to make this one. I will be working on the design and should have a print in the near future to get some quotes.

ZForce 600EX/600 / Rear prop shaft
« on: August 19, 2016, 07:59:58 PM »
My rear prop shaft u joints are shot. I haven't taken it apart yet but I think the   sliding joint is bad too. Just hit 1k miles and with the other issues I've had, I don't have the guts to tell the wife yet.

General Discussion / Water in differential
« on: July 26, 2016, 08:41:25 AM »
I had more water than oil in the rear diff. Any other way it got in there besides the vent tube? Also they need to learn how tight fasteners need to be. Broke a ratchet trying to get the filler plug out. Needed a pry bar the first oil filter change too.

OK, this tip kinda goes with not letting your biker buddies catch you on a scooter. Yes it works, but try not to let your buddies see you do it. I have found that if you use astroglide or KY lube for getting gromits, grips and any other rubber parts where they need to be. They are water based and once they dry or get washed off, you are good to go and there is no trace of it behind.

General Discussion / Cordage
« on: July 23, 2016, 04:31:11 PM »
I like reusing things, especially when I can save it from the dump. I tried this and it works awesome. The cordage you get is super strong and very light. I got about 50ft from a 2L bottle. Used it to fix a broken rake handle. I am putting some in my offroad kit. I've even seen guys wind it up and pull a car to show how strong it is.

Is your reverse light on regardless of what gear your in and the rev limiter is engaged? Here is a how to on fixing the problem.

Why did this happen?
The old sensor is too tall and the top was broken off by the parking brake bracket. Sensor works by ungrounding the lead when in reverse telling the ecu to turn on the rev limiter.

Option #1
Ground the lead going to the sensor, bypassing the sensor and reverse light will never come on again.

Option #2
Replace the sensor with the updated part that is lower profile.

1. Remove the seats

2. Remove the trim around the parking brake

3. Remove the plastic that sits behind both seats. Push pins and some bolts here

4. Remove the broken off terminal from inside the sensor lead.

4a. You can just ground it now and call it good if you like.

5. Remove the old sensor. You can get a box end wrench on it. Try under the bracket, angled back.

6. Install updated sensor

7. Attach tail of new sensor to sensor lead. If it goes in easy, you may want to pull the plastic cover off and squeeze the ring smaller to get a solid connection.

8. Place extra wire in wire holder to the rear passenger side of bracket. Make sure to leave some slack.

9. Confirm that it works and reinstall plastics.

ZForce 600EX/600 / Z6 rear axles
« on: July 19, 2016, 06:35:58 AM »
I was looking up rear axles and noticed that the part numbers had changed in 2015. Does anyone know why. I'm currently working on a binding problem back there and trying to figure out what I have to work with.

ZForce 600EX/600 / 800 RZR shocks on a Z6
« on: July 17, 2016, 08:28:25 PM »
I was able to fit a full set of RZR 800 shocks in my Z6 53". I think they are a far better shock, progressive, and easy to find. They are about an 1 1/2" longer and the lower bushing spacers are a little bit longer too. You can just grind/ file them to match the OEM ones. The fronts went in easy with only having to rotate a brake line to make room for the larger springs. The rears will fit also but I discovered a design flaw with the rear diff. The diff sits too low and makes the cv axle bottom out when you try to move the a arms down for a longer shock. This does happen with the OEM shocks too, but not as bad. Check the in and out play on the axle when it is down on the ground. Now jack it up with the tire off the ground. You will see what I mean. The play is gone and the diff bearings are side loaded. To get the rears in, I unbolted the upper spindle bolt allowing the arms to go down a little bit. I then was able to attach the bottom of the shock and compress it to get the upper spindle bolt back in. I think I will have to raise the diff up to get it to work like it should have from the start. I think even with the OEM shocks in there and it binding like it is, I would have bad diff bearings at some point. I will post what I end up doing to fix this.

ZForce 600EX/600 / Loose rear diff. Bolts
« on: July 10, 2016, 08:20:13 PM »
My rear diff. Had loose bolts and the front bracket had snapped off a mounting bolt. I have been hearing a clunk/popping noise petty much since new. Guess the bolt has been broken for awhile because it was pretty rusty. Ride, fix, repeat it seems lately.

ZForce 600EX/600 / Dust in CVT AGAIN
« on: July 04, 2016, 09:31:39 PM »
I took the belt cover off again to try to get the clutches right. There was a ton of fine dust indust in there and the secondary cam was scared up. I put a filter on the intake the second time I had dust pack in there. I'm at a loss here. I'm not replacing the cam again.   The dealer said to snorkel it, but it is illegal here to have them. If there is a DNR officer within 100 miles of me, he finds me without fail every time. I'm ready to call it quits with it. I don't want to pull the belt cover off every time I come back from a ride.
