NMK...definitely going to install one of these...do most users prefer the metal cable (which can fray) or prefer the synthetic (eg. DEVIL'S WIRE) for long lasting use. Interested in all opinions...thanks guys
I don't have any experience with any type of synthetic rope but many swear by it. I use my winches rarely and the old wire type has always served me will. I always though I would try some 1/8" aircraft cable because I can get well over 100 feet on the spool and its more then strong enough to pull my ATV over a mountain with the breaking strength of 1760 lbs. Not sure about the Z though....I would think it would be OK. This stuff:

NMK, let me know if you are planning on changing your cable. I work for Fastenal and can see what pricing I can get. I can get aircraft cable, stainless, synthetic etc etc. And ANY fasteners, clamps , brackets that these may need.

I still have the factory cable in mine, luckily I've never had to use it yet. Most action it's had was making sure it worked a couple times when I first got it. I know I can get 75' of aircraft stainless steel cable with a 6400lb break strength, from work at a great price. Just wondering if it's a good idea to just change it out before I have to put it under a "real" test.

I wouldn't. It's average quality cable and should will last a good while. I've used mine more in the last 1.5 years then I ever used the one on my Brute in over 10 years but so far it's worked just fine.. although the thought of reaching out farther always has my interest. I might get an extra 50' extension...and some kind of land anchor for those times when there are no trees or rocks close by.

So finally got this installed, which was pretty easy.  I had already added a dash winch toggle, so I combined that with this wireless unit which I think was about $12 on ebay.  I don't normally like these kind of connectors but it was the easiest way to connect what I have going on here.
Works pretty well.  There is a split second delay when you let off the switch, but overall it works pretty well.

Tried to post a pic, but too big.  This is the one I bought.

One thing to be aware of, moisture on the remote. On my ATV I installed the identical remote set that Sockman linked above, and I would keep the smaller remote fob dealie dangling off my keys. Well.
One day I'd had the winch in the rear receiver and it was raining lightly. I was ahead of my riding buddy when he gave a yell, and I stopped. .
Lo and behold there was about 15 feet of winch line already spooled off the winch and a couple of loose wraps were seen already around one back wheel, and the winch was still slowly dribbling off line!

The remote had gotten some water in it and that completed a path that activated the remotes out function. It no longer answered the button pad. I had to unplug the winch with its inline big Anderson 50 amp plug (good thing it wasn't hard wired, I had the Anderson plug on the big wires so I could mount the winch in front or rear of the quad as needed)
To restore the winch line properly on the drum I had to go far enough away from the remote that its unhelpful signal no longer reached the receiver, and then I used the other bigger remote to wind the winch line back onto the drum. Since I didn't have the tiny Phillips screwdriver with me that would be needed to remove the battery from the malfunctioning remote, I had to just leave the big winch connector unplugged.
Near disaster caused by the remote's lack of water resistance and my unwise choice of place to carry the fob.

I added a dash winch control switch on the CF Moto for convenience (and an LED lights and voltmeter/USB charge port)

Wow..never thought about what I would do if for some reason the remote wouldn't stop sending a signal...I have no easy way of unplugging the winch...Hmm...there is an on/off switch on the side...I better test it :)

Good to know.  Maybe I'll take that one apart and silicone it up, or lather it in dielectric grease.

The bigger remote has a slide on off switch but the little fob one has only in and out buttons and a sliding guard that goes over the buttons.

I might get an extra 50' extension...and some kind of land anchor for those times when there are no trees or rocks close by.

Edit: Not so much trying to show off my stuff, but just saying sometimes it seems that NMK and I think along similar lines. :)

I carry this rollover recovery kit that includes 10' and 50' extensions of 3/16 line. I got pretty handy at wire rope splicing when I was logging, though this is tiny line compared to what I was used to. :)
Because you know how it works, the good tailholt is always a good 10 feet further away than the end of your winch line.

And this land anchor the makers called the 'X-Tractor'. You can use the clips to configure it as compact as it gets for storage, a shovel, and an anchor that you dig in with the shovel mode and then bury. Winch hook goes on a loop that stashes in the handle. Weights five and a half pounds. In 10 years or so I've only needed it twice.

I think the company that made this anchor went titters a while back.

Got a chance to use the remote for the winch this week and it works like a champ.  Best $14 I've spent in a long time.  Very handy, works great.  No real delay, maybe just a hair.

Hello,
I have a 2016 cfmoto uforce 800 eps that came with a wireless remote for the winch. I was able to only use is once and it stopped working. Could you please help me trouble shoot the winch remote to get it back up and running.
Thanks in advance.
