Two bolts and the airbox is off. Just pop the rubber adapter out of the box...

The main reason I haven't removed the box is, I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. I want to go on an extended ride to make sure everything works right. If not, I want to easily be able to go back to the factory set up. Once I'm sure it is working well with no problems, I will be taking the box off.

Yep..gota test stuff first. What foam filter oil are you using on your Unifilter?

I use FAB-1 these days. Foam filters won't capture the dust without coating the cell surfaces with something sticky so..use good stuff.

I used to use it...for many years. I was buying it by the jug but found that over time the transporter..(alcohol) would evaporate and although I could still work it in to all the cells, it wouldn't dry and stay put...rather it would migrate downward and drop off the bottom of the filter. That also leaves the top exposed or with a lack of oil so..I quit using it. The spray would probably not loose its transporter..and that's why I'm now using the FAB-1 in a spray can. 

Having to watch my budget, I couldn't afford to get a snorkel kit. What I did was build my own from items found at Home Depot or Lowe's. The total cost for the engine and cvt intake together was around $50 or less and is quite effective. I produced two short videos on YouTube to basically show how I did this. My YouTube channel is "cowdog64". Feel free to contact me with questions regarding this.

So, any updates?  I'm kind of waiting to see what you think of your design of going right past the airbox and putting the main filter on top of the stack.  I am very temped to ditch the stock air box all together.  It's a maintenance headache and not camping friendly to get into and service.  I do like NMK's duel filter set up, though.

No, I don't have any updates really. Summer time I don't get much riding in. California SUCKS ( in sooo many ways) and Arizona is HOT!!
I do have a trip planned for mid October so everything will get tested then. I did go ahead and remove the airbox completely. So still nothing has been modified that I can replace if needed. I thought about doing a duel set up.
I decided against it because I could not think of a logical reason to do it other than the appearance.

You can still only get so much air in regardless of how many places your pulling it from. I just didn't see any advantage to it. It does look cool though.

I only bring in air to the engine in one place...I just filter it twice. The CVT is only once but it's a dry-type so it's easier to clear on the trail or camping.

Thanks for the update.  The stock air box takes up a huge amount of room.  And I like the idea of putting things back as they were if ever their was a reason to take it in.  Grew up in SoCal riding MX.  Summer is punishing hot so riding was very early mornings or none at all.  The move to Idaho has changed all that.  There are so many places to ride.  Old ghost mining towns are a favorite.

So I went riding this past weekend. First time with the new snorkel and the lift kit I added. Happy to report both worked very well. The air filter is now very easy to take off and clean. Didn't notice anything different power wise. All in all, happy with both

When you have time, can you post a pic of the final (no air box) mod?  I am about to take off my air box and do the same thing and would like one more pic to confirm what I think about getting rid of the air box.

Sorry for the LOOOOOOng delay. I just recently had a hip replacement and have not been on line and certainly able to take picture.
I don't know if you have removed yours yet, but I'm very happy I did.

No worries.  I had my knee replaced almost two years ago and dam glad I did.  Do the hard rehab work.  Totally worth it.  I climbed Mt. Baldy six months after my knee replacement.  5 hours up and down.  Prior to that it was almost 9 up and down because of the pain.  Heal up and get those pics!
