Uforce 1000 Disabling Engine Breaking
« on: May 21, 2021, 10:26:54 PM »
I’m new to the CFMoto forum, ATV’s and I know almost nothing about engines, drive trains, etc.  I just purchased a UForce 1000 and was introduced to engine breaking.  Frankly that is a deal breaker for me, but it’s too late to return it to the dealer.

I’ve noticed in some posts about older models that the engine breaking system can be disengaged or disabled. Has anybody been able to do this and if so, how?

Why is it a deal breaker?

Just replace the oneway/overriding clutch between the primary sheaves with a standard bearing. However, as with all CVT systems, you will still have engine braking down to about 9mph but when the clutch releases the belt, you will free-wheel below that instead of having engine braking down to about 3mph. Why anyone would do this is beyond me. Dangerous on steep slopes and brakes won't last half as long.

Thanks for posting the info!  This is probably just a situation where I bought the wrong type of vehicle.  Half the time it serves the purpose for me to roll around the property to pick up limbs, etc.  (We have hundreds of trees on our property).  I test drove the neighbors Kawasaki Mule around the property and although it is perfect for work tasks, it otherwise it is slow and useless for off-roading.

I have 3 adult kids that visit regularity which is why I turned toward the Uforce 1000 in an attempt to buy a vehicle that would serve as a work vehicle but also be a lot of fun going off road.  When I’m picking up limbs, I am going short distances and make frequent stops.  The engine break in this instance only serves to make the vehicle perform ‘very jerky’ when speeding up and slowing down.  So for most work activities, I am driving at between 5-20 mph. (We’re in Kansas....relatively flat terrain in most places so going down steep hills is not really a factor, at least on the grounds that it will be used on.)

Again, I know absolutely nothing about engines and mechanical components, but I’ll look in to the mod that you described.

Have a great Sunday!

A little experience driving it will eliminate the "jerkyness" simply by not releasing the gas pedal all at once, and you'll come to complete stops smoothly without wearing out the brakes. At that point you'll grow to appreciate it. I consider it a safety feature.

I'm thinking you might be confusing the primary clutch operation...and throttle control with the engine brake. There is no jerking action associated with that oneway spragg..aka overriding clutch...but there is with these new non-wet clutch primaries that have not set up properly as well as the new throttle control if yours has the "Throttle by wire" system. There was a recall on the ones for the 950 for being unpredictable and hard to control. Yours may have a problem that can be fixed with a replacement unit.

Does the "belt slammer" cvt setup even have a sprag?

Yeah. Its between the two halfs of the primary. When not being used as a sprag, it's an idler bearing for the belt. Here, they are all like this. #17 in this pic:

Makes sense.  It isn't listed that way under the 1000, but if you look up the part number online, it comes up as being one way.
