Parking/Hand Brake Boot for the Z
« on: April 15, 2017, 04:39:22 PM »
As time goes on you look for things that make your experience just a little more pleasant..and being retired always looking for that next little project. For me lately I have been plugging holes trying to keep as much of the noise, dust and heat out of the cab as possible. Summer riding season here can be hot and dusty...so..as I run-out of holes to plug..I noticed the parking brake and how it's open to the back side...well..it needs a boot.  :)

Not wanting to spend a lot of money I grabbed some 18G sheet metal I had around the shop and after a few measurements made a frame that could be molded to fit the curves of that area. Did that, drilled some holes and gave it a little paint. Here it is with the measurements:

Ordered this el-cheap-o vinyl boot from amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UM9NEEI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Grabbed some pan-head stainless screws from Lowes. They could have been 1/2":

When the boot came it looked like this:

The rubber handle just slides off:

With a little stretch and tuck, the base got mounted:

Then with a little snip, roll and 1-zip tie the neck gets positioned and the rubber gets put back on. That's it..one less open hole. :)

I can imagine a world completely at peace.  A world where there are no weapons, no war, and no violence at all.  And I can imagine us taking over that world because they would never expect it.

I have never been so dirty in all my life.  I was spitting mud out of my mouth the whole race LOL.  When we stood up out of the SxS after the race mud was falling off of us in 2-3lb chunks and making the lovely "plop" sound on the ground.  I can promise you we had between 700-1000 lbs of mud on/in that thing and that was a MAJOR reason the shocks felt as bad as they did.  I spent 5 hours power washing it and its not CLEAN....it just doesnt have large chunks of mud on it anymore.

Thanks. Just trying to keep as much heat and noise out as I can. I even packed memory foam around the seat belt openings and every other hole I could find then shot some black paint on it to blend in...lol.  Every little bit helps. :)

You're just refining the hell out of that machine. If you hear some rustling in the garage in night, it might be some black clad Chinese engineers slinking around taking pictures and jotting down notes.
For a nation to believe it can tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and believing he can raise himself by pulling on the handle - Winston Churchill
