As i have not been into the clutch on these yet but i have heard several of you guys talk about wanting quicker engagement from them.  It looks like you could slug the wet clutch and fix that issue also.  Its a trick/mod we have done on the Yamaha's for years and on my Yamaha Rhino i have mine to where anything over a blip of the throttle the wet clutch fully engages.  This makes it not slip and thus doesnt wear out near as fast.  Its just a thought.

I can imagine a world completely at peace.  A world where there are no weapons, no war, and no violence at all.  And I can imagine us taking over that world because they would never expect it.

I've never done it, but I've read about it. It's a cheap mod, but requires going all the way into the wet clutch. Other than that it appears to be pretty easy to do. I want to take the opposite approach. I want stall springs so I get a little more power off the bottom. I put stalls on my Grizzly and it seemed to eliminate the lag time where the clutches are engaged but not fully, causing slippage. The clutch would engage a little later, but engage fully all at one time instead of the lagging.

There is a link to a discussion on it and a video that talks about it some.  I have done it a few times on Rhino's and it is AMAZING how much better it makes it.  The video is really good at talking about the real life benefits of the clutch slugs.  I just bought a CF Moto (2014 Z Force 800ex) but i haven't picked it up yet.  Im for sure going to slug the clutch when i get it in.

What your saying you want is exactly what slugs do.  They also force the clutch to grip harder due to the weight so you have less change of slippage.  There are guys that run a shim plus the slugs in the Rhinos because really they do different things.  The shim is for gear ratio and the slugs are for more positive clutch and faster clutch engagement.  My dad has a "Big Iron" SxS and he had to replace his wet clutch because the previous owner abused it.  I tried to convince him that he should slug it before putting it in but he said "Nah it will be fine".  After getting it all together he asked me "Why does mine rev a little before it takes off?".  I explained to him that was what the slugs would have done for him.  My Rhino is slugged and litterally anything over idle and it will start to crawl off with no jerking and no slipping.  I have seen guys with slugs run 7-8k miles and the clutch still looks like new.

I would be interested in seeing...or rather hearing what this does for a CFMoto but will remain skeptical until someone does it as the CFMoto has lighter springs then most others and only has 400-500RPMs of stall....at least mine does. From experience I know a few grams of weight can make hundreds of rpm s difference in stall for example, my Kawasaki, with only a change from 4-58 gram flyweights to 4-56s, it increased the stall by almost 300 rpm. That's only 6 grams to make that difference. So, increasing the shoe weight will have the same effect but in reverse. I don't know what these slugs weigh, but whatever you do you don't want anything less then a 200rpm stall for the warm-up when the loop is open or you may have shoes making contact with the drum all the time at idle making them wear faster and even more miserable to shift gears then they already are....I know you can relate to that.  Sure you can put in heavier springs..but doesn't that defeat the purpose? And..doesn't all this add to that infamous "rotational mass-performance-killer" we are trying to reduce with the wet-clutch delete systems?  I do see the Rhino guys swear by it and the CFMoto wet clutches do tend to wear faster ...and there is no question a heavier shoe will generate higher contact pressure at speed, it's the idle to full engagement I question with the Moto..so let's see someone do this and report back. Mine is just fine for now...lol

Im willing to give it a try for sure.  I will talk to some of my buddies next week when i meet up with them in WV to ride and see what the exact weights are of the slugs.  Nothing ventured nothing gained.  Someone has to be the first to try something but i want to see how it does fully stock first.

From everything I have seen yes they do have the holes in the clutch shoes where weight could be added.  I have parts on order to fix my CF Moto up so I have just pushed it to the back burner until all my parts show up which means i haven't been in the clutch yet.  I want to get mine together then get some baseline numbers and then start the mods to see what if the changes make real world gains on it.  I have to say straight away from working on the Z force 800 that i am VERY disappointed in the "skid plate" that is under it.  that thin plastic is a JOKE and wouldnt stop anything from blowing a hole in your drive train.  I will be building a full underbelly aluminum skid plate for it almost right away.

The Polaris ones are junk also but that doesnt make the CF Moto ones any better.  I have another SxS and have been under several friends SxS's.  The one on the CF Moto is by far the biggest joke in the off road industry that I have ever seen they are also thinner than the Polaris ones.  Yamaha's are full steel and welded. Jump a Yamaha and land the belly on a rock and your still ok.  Try that with the "splash shield" that they call a skid plate thats under the CF moto and youll have rock inside your engine.  Now that doesnt make the whole machine junk but it something that should be addressed.
