Jogon30 gave me his old Home Made doors as he has a set of the Russian doors coming..lucky guy...so I am installing the old doors on mine to see if I am going to like having doors and getting my own pro-built doors sometime. These are just some photos of them installed and the latching setup that I used.

UPDATE 2/24/16:

Ok, all done. The rest of the photos have been added to the slideshow above and this is just a quick vid:

UPDATE 2/25/16:

Boy...started it for the first time with the new doors. All the metal to metal parts on the latches sure make a lot of.."conversation." Think I need something between the bolt and the latch frame and the lock. I was thinking about rubber grommets but with all the sliding the bolt does, I think I would be better off with vinyl grommets. All I would need to do is disassemble the latches, drill out the holes to 5/8" and the one on the lock, install the grommets and re-assemble. May not be as quiet as rubber but the sliding action shouldn't be effected much and it will stop the metal to metal contact. So this is what I ordered as the latches do have 1/2" bolts. 20 for 9 bucks and I only need 6 so...spares when they start to wear...lol:

------------------------------------------------

UPDATE 3/8/16:

Grommets came on. Cut the groove wider, drilled out the brackets and installed them. All rattles from the latches are now no more. Although they are listed as vinyl, they are very soft like rubber.

Looks great!! Thanks for the latch pics. I really want to try my hand at making a set of doors for mine. Not that I think I can do it better, I'm just weird about removing factory stuff, so I would like to fab a set where I can keep all factory bars. Even if it means re making the small top bar again to accommodate the small rear part of the door that holds the hinge. The latch part is what I needed to see.. Thank you!

Let's do that and maybe go to Jemez. I want to check out my GPS up there. I usually go with Bruce or Dave and they always lead so I just follow. But I always see trails I want to check out so..yeah lets go see!

I think they look pretty good. I don't own good enough equipment to try this yet, but I want to. Maybe later I can swing a good welder.

Looks awesome!! Great work!!
Maybe our Russian friend can sent you the graphics that he uses. May need trimmed to fit the slightly different design but I think you can handle that.

I was just thinking about that. Although it may not stick to the textured surface on the outside now, I could swap the skins and put the shiny surfaces to the outside.. if both frames were exactly the same. Then the decals would stick for sure. But it's my hope to get a set of the Russian doors for myself at some point. I'm sure after seeing Jogon30's in person that won't be long...lol. These are great doors but being heavy steel framed makes them probably 18lbs each. Those with the steel skid/rock sliders are starting to add up to another person's weight.

True. I even had a concept in mind of making a light weight set of doors from 3/4" pvc used a heat gun to get the bends right. But my fear was true, after heating the tinsel strength of the bends becomes brittle. I'd like to get a set from him too. I think I'm to stubborn to stop trying to fab a set. Lol as I really want to keep the existing bars. Trying to come up with a "easy install" set up. Using my old jeep in mind, something I can take on and off with little trouble. Once their on id probably never take them off , but just want to have the option. I'll be brainstorming maybe CAD some thoughts.

One of the other thoughts I had was that I transport this in the back of my truck, and opening the door enough to get out wasn't going to happen...and me crawling out the window like the Dukes of Hazzard was also not going to happen....so I made it so I can pull the hinge pins and remove that door for loading and unloading. I might also that to the passenger door too just so I can run with the doors off if I want to.

On pvc, you have to heat it up evenly or it will weaken it badly. There is a furniture grade pvc in a ton of colors. It is said to be shatter proof and a lot stronger. It is a bit more money than the regular stuff, but it would be worth a try.

Thanks, I'll definitely look into it. I did get it to bend nicely the problem was when I tested the strength ( actually trying to break it ) held up ok but not good enough for me to be satisfied. I'll look into the furniture grade stuff. May be onto something.

If you can find some locally and save shipping, that's what I would do. I made a bow out of pvc for the kid. Works pretty good with a 30+ draw to it. It is made of regular schedule 40 and don't think it would break but hitting it hard against something  might kill it. Maybe later I will get a piece of furniture grade, put a bend in it, than proceed to beat the piss out of it. Might make it on my go to material list.
