Some have asked what I do when I service my clutches. Because I did it today I kept track so I could list everything here. Should you do all this every time, well probably not...but a good cleaning and inspection is always recommended. How often? That depends on your riding. I would do it every 500 miles or so...but that's me.
Primary Clutch
1. Clean completely- all parts
2. Re-polish contact areas of all sliders- check weight.
3. Clean and re-polish contact areas of cam plate
4. Re-polish slider tracks
5. Clean and polish cam plate slides and posts
6. Block sand sheaves with 400g w/d. Then polish with medium then fine steel wool
7. Assemble rubbing weapons-grade graphite on all areas that move and/or contact another.
8. Blow loose graphite off, then wipe-down sheaves with acetone.
Secondary Clutch
1. Dissemble and clean completely.
2. Re-profile if necessary cam shoes
3. Re-polish slide areas of helix/cam and check for proper shoe contact if re-profiled.
4. Block sand sheaves with 400g w/d. Then polish with medium then fine steel wool.
5. Clean and lube center hub with graphite-clear excess.
6. Assemble- lightly coating shoes and cam with graphite.
7. Blow- off then wipe-down sheaves with acetone.
Drive Belt
1. Inspect for width per manual and clean with air and firm non-metal brush
2. Lightly rub contact edges with scotch-bright pad, then clean with clean cotton cloth and light acetone.
