cv tech clutch for 1000 and 950 Sport
« on: August 25, 2020, 12:23:45 PM »
As I posted I just got my new 2020 950 Sport.
I did some investigating of the complete clutch setup and thought I should share!
Primary clutch center bolt is 18mm LEFT HAND thread.
Primary nut to remove outer half of clutch is 30mm LEFT HAND thread.
primary weights are 14 grams.
primary spring color appears to be GOLD/ORANGE/BLUE but I can't find any online reference to that color.
Secondary nut is 36mm and RIGHT HAND thread.
Secondary clutch appears to be the same as previous Zforce 800 I had.
Secondary comes with spring 'clocked' at B1.

I'm not sure yet but the bearing on the primary appears to be a 2 way bearing.

I just re-clocked my secondary to B2, same as I ran on my previous machine.(I will update you after I run it some)

Any updates on the clocking? I looking at doing something woth my 950 as the amount of gas needed to take off is alot so there is no creeping forward. Like moving a bit on a trailer

If your looking for a lower rpm at takeoff IMO you need to change the CV Tech primary spring to a #0951-014 and maybe add 1 penny behind every other weight in the primary clutch. This should make your take off rpm about 2000.
This is what I am am running and love it!
I also have re-clocked my secondary clutch to the B2 setting but that is more for my trail riding.
I hope this helps!

Yes at take off. When loading on to a trailer, i have to time it just right to get it to stop at the front. If i come up short then i have to rev it up and lunge foward and it hits the trialer. Theys not inching forward with this thing. I have heard the penny idea how do they stick and how many weights are there? What kind of trails do you ride? Will help me decide which way to go.

There are 6 weights inside the clutch cover, each contains a factory weight of 14g, pop out the factory weight and add the penny and re-install the factory weight.(just a snug fit in the plastic holder)

BE SURE AND MARK THE CLUTCH COVER AND HOUSING FOR 'CLOCKING' BEFORE REMOVAL AND REINSTALL IN THE SAME POSITION! (YOU MUST MAINTAIN THE FACTORY BALANCING)

I ride all different types of trails, some quite hilly or rocky. Lots of travel under 10MPH.
I would recommend you start with maybe re-clocking your secondary to the C1 position first to see if you like the difference.
Clutch tuning is a personal preference type thing and a lot of trial and error!
Very easy to do on these new 950 machines tho.

Did you weigh the weights to come up with the 14G ? Cause a buddy weighed the stock weights and the scale shows 16G. Also my spring is black with a few painted blue dots and orange dots.

Also what are you referring to with what you said about marking the clutch cover and housing for clocking ?  Are your referring to making sure the helix ramps on secondary to make sure the ramps get put back to the correct side of the helix plastic shoe ?

My setup is like the airdam clutch kit ,
18 g weights , 1017 ( 200/160 ) spring and secondary clocked to B3. Personally i think A2 would be plenty on secondary but im going run it at b3 for a little .

You are correct!
The stock weights are 16g. My scale was off!
I have done lots of experimenting since my first posting on clutch tuning.
I'm now running a 200/600 primary spring and have drilled all of my weights to approx.14g each. I will follow up later  on how the clutch setting handles the taller tires after I get a chance to run it a little.
I just installed new 30x10x14 Tusk Terrabite tires all around.
My machine now has about 2400 miles and is great!
