CFMOTO Clutching
« on: July 29, 2015, 11:23:41 PM »
I have received many questions on clutching so I will share all I know so far. Some of this info has not been 100% confirmed. Use at your own risk. If you have anything to add, please do. Take a look at what the atric cat fellows are doing as they use the same basic type of set up.

What you may have:

HL type has engine braking
MC type does not have engine braking
Complete CV-TECH Clutch set

Wet clutch:

HL&MC type use one. It is behind the CVT and engages in two stages, partial and full engagment a set rpms. This gets the primary pulley turning. It shouldn't turn at idle.

CV-TECH Does not use a wet clutch

Aftermarket Parts- Yes

MC type- Can use Dr. Pulley HiT clutch 301901. Fully adjustable with lots of different springs included to tune it in.

HL type- unsure at this time. Dr. Pulley lists it but HL and MC OEM part numbers do not match. Too broke to try.

Primary Pulley:

Made by CFMOTO

HL:

Rollers:
OEM prt# 0180-05110-0003
Size: 30x18 25g.
Dr. Pulley prt# SR3018/8 Available in many different weights
Standard rollers available from 3rd party sellers in different weights if short on cash.

Sliders (on the pressure plate)
OEM prt# 0180-05003-0003
Dr. Pulley prt# SP3019-S Not sure if these will fit, website info seems incomplete

MC:

Rollers:
OEM prt# 0180-051100
Size: 30x19 25g.
Dr. Pulley prt# SR3019/8 Available in many different weights
Standard rollers available from 3rd party sellers in different weights if short on cash.

Sliders:(on the pressure plate)
OEM prt# 0180-051003
Dr. Pulley prt# SP3019-S These should fit

CV-TECH TrailBloc: (400 and 500 H.O. EPS so far)

NOTE on Weight: It seems they use the same weight for all their machines, doesn't seem any R&D was done to find the ideal weight for the different engines they offer. I tried 24g. rollers 1st in my Z6 but am now going to 23g., take off is still slugish. I have seen some go as low as 22g. and it seemed ok, but don't know how much top end they lost. Also I would not use grease in there. The Dr. Pulley rollers slide just fine without it and if dust gets in there it will ruin it.

Update: 23g. Is too light for stock tires, seems stuck in some mid range gear.

Secondary Pulley:

Made by CFMOTO or CV-TECH. You will have to look at what you have. The CV-TECH will have their name on them and will need to thread in a screw (same thread as belt cover) twards the center to open them up to get the belt out. CV-TECH has good info on there site along with maintenance procedures. You will have to find what model you have to figure out what springs or helix to use should you decide to change something.

NOTE: Some 07-09 X5's share the same Clutching with the  Suzuki Vinson 500. Kits a available for these. If the roller size match than this is probably true.

Hey bud today I installed my dr pulley kit 30/18 I think? Lol anyways I felt a little difference on take off and mid like 20 to 40 mph a little more explosive now maybe it's all in my head not sure lol top end speed about the same 70 to 71 mph now my question is do I need heavier sliders or is my machine governed about that speed felt pretty good over all but not a OMG moment here is a few pics of sliders and install

What was the weight of the sliders/rollers you installed? Heavier weight closes the clutch sooner. Lighter will let the engine rev higher before the clutch starts to close. There are a few good write ups online the explain the CVT well. I'm currently in the middle of installing 23g. rollers. At 24g. I did see some improvement. But I want to try to get better take off.

Dr pulley does put the weight on the plastic container they come in. If for some reason it's not there, contact the seller and see if they can give you the info. Worst case you will need to weigh them.you need to know where you are to know where to go next.  dr.pulley claims that the shape of there sliders opens and closes the clutch farther increasing the top and bottom end of the gear ratio. You my find your top speed better if you are close to stock weight. You my want to post asking what people are getting for top speed in the z8 section if that's what your running. Almost every machine out there has a rev limiter and as far as limiting the speed, every manufacturer is different and I don't know for sure what cfmoto has done.

Far as I know most of these have an RPM limiter only. I'll so some research as to where it is but its controlled by the ECU in most cases. 71mph is scary-fast already..lol

Stock weight should be 25g. Here is a guide I found, it is for the jog and clone style but the concepts are the same.

The x8 service manual has the cv-tech  secondary info in it if anyone is interested. It also has better instructions on the belt change.

You can order straight from Dr pulley. I have bought the last two sets off ebay. Scooter assassins was the seller. They have the best prices. It will take time to get them coming from Tiwan.

Would I use a lighter weight to compensate for high-altitude operation?  It occurs to me that I don't do any riding below 4000 ft, so I would probably benefit from adjusting my weights accordingly.

Yes, I too don't ride below 5400 ft and as much as 12,000 feet so I am going to either 23g or 22g if I can get them. And yes, I can confirm the stocks are 25g. Just weighted one. Actually 25.09g

You going rollers or sliders?  If I knew that they'd fit, I'd like to try the sliders.  Of course, then the question would be if I use the same weight in a slider, or if I have to use a different one because it's not rolling...

Am I overthinking it?

Dr pulley offers the sr3018 in many weights. They claim you can go 1 gram lighter and not lose any low or top end due to the shape of there sliders. I just installed the 23g. Set. I am waiting on other parts before I can test it out.
