I took the battery box out and relocated a harness out of the way. I could get the impact in there with a straight impact extension with a slight angle. My little 250ftlb impact wouldn't do it. Had to get a real one. Also sense the center plastic will be out in the cab, you can use a breaker bar-it just flexes the other plastic edge a little. As for holding it...well you need something. But it has to fit well so as not to break the fins..or...maybe a good strap wrench around the outside edge if it won't damage it. I think I posted some pics somewhere here of what I either made and used on mine. You will need a holder for the primary going back on because if not you will be putting pressure on the one-way clutch inside and that will break it.

@Cosmosdan we have basically the same machine I was wondering how you have your clutch set up and what tires your running. I'm all stock right now but I would like your reccomendations on where to clock it and which sliders to put in for 28" bighorns i'd like to put on I do mostly trail riding so power out of the hole is most important but I don't want to loose to much topend either.

I am still running stock tires. We seem the ride the same type of areas. From factory, the clutch has 25g. Rollers and the secondary is clocked at B1. I did try the 24g. And noted an improvement in take off with less bogging. I am currently at 23g./B1 and don't like it. Top end is gone.  My next step is back to 24g. And set the the secondary to A1. There just isn't anyone doing the leg work to find all the right settings for the various set ups. My advice, and take it as a best guess, is try 24g./C1. B1 may be a little much for our smaller engine and with larger tires might be a good place to start.

Had mine out yesterday back at the normal shale/hill climb areas I normally ride with the B2 setting on stock tires. Pretty good improvement in climbing and low-mid range as others have said,
Lost some top end too. Not horrible, but 5-8mph.
Putting 30's on this week, gonna try it on b2 and maybe if needed go 24 or 23 sliders, and possibly a2

Maybe we need to start a clutch setting tread for each model. Something along the lines of size tires,  high altitude, roller weight and secondary spring setting.

I've been reading alot of the posts in here trying to learn. I have a 2010 trail tracker 500. Carb model. Stayed with standard 25" tires just went a bit wider. Top speed is 88km/h which I never utilize. My bottom end sucks tho. In the mountains and muskeg of northern BC I struggle even in low range. No power in bottom end. I would like some advice to get better bottom end and mid range for the hills and bog I always go thru. FYI my buddies 2005 kodiak 450 rides circles around me in the bush!

I think you have the HL clutch set up. You will have to pull the cover to be sure. Post pictures in the 500/x5 category if you need some help identifying it. If I'm right you could get a dr pulley wet clutch if you want. Try some lighter primary rollers. I think stock is 25g. 23g might be a good choice. You should have the cfmoto secondary also. Not sure if that one needs a different spring or can be adjusted like the cvtech. You will want more pressure either way to make it back shift sooner. Once you know what clutches you have, the info at the beginning of this post will be more helpful.

Love the information here, So i was able to home make a thing like in the video on here to get the Secondary clutch apart to reclock it to B2 but it seems that wasn't enough, probably need to take it back apart to do B3, anyone else find a good metal "U" shape thing like he has in video to easily impact it open and shut, i am currently using a 4 in metal outlet case that i broke a side off but it crumbles after one use, not thick enough metal. Any ideas? Here is the video for a reminder on what i'm talking about with the contraption he made.
