I've decided I am going with the 22g because:
1. I intent to put larger (27" 8ply) and heavier tires on it.
2. I live at 5400 ft and ride from that to 12000ft and some pretty steep & long climbs.
3. On the desert I climb dunes that I need the velocity and speed of high range as low has the power, but not the "sling-shot" effect needed to complete the long runs. My Brute is set up the same way.

I haven't tried changing the secondary spring pressure, but I wanted to try moving the spring position to increase the pressure. More back shift might be what I've been after. I don't want to get ahead of myself so I'm trying one change at a time.

I'm going to do that too while I have it apart.

I tried the 23g sliders. I feel they are too light now. Top end is now pretty slow to get there. I have a ride coming up late next month and will let it be till after that. How it does on the trail will tell me where to go next. If I don't like it, my next move is back to 24g and move up one notch on the secondary for more backshift.

Man...Hope I didn't go too far with the 22s on the 800. If so..oh well, live and learn I guess.

I wouldn't mind so much having to make changes, but it is so much work to get to it. Take a few pictures of how you get the secondary off. I might be there soon.

I will. So far over 300ftlbs torque won't get it so I ordered an air impact with 1000. I guess the factory uses a thread-loc compound from hell..but they didn't use it on the drive/primary clutch. Weird.

How does the 2 stage wet clutch engagement work? Is it just 2 stage springs or what. I prefer solid engagement. Does anyone offer stall springs? Would that eliminate the 2 stage engagement?

You guys with lighter weights, what shift out RPMs are you getting? I plan to go to 30 or 32 inch tires soon. I need my engine to run well within the power band. I'm thinking at least 20g to 18g maybe even 16g. These weight work well on the Grizzlies I'm used to, but not sure about these.

After checking I don't see that Dr. Pulley makes wet clutches afterall. Generally speaking, you adjust the shiftout and most back shift with the weights of the primary but when adding load, like larger and heavier tires, always adjust for that with the secondary. These unlike others have a pinned spring system with many combinations to choose from. This also changes the shiftout and upshift as it changes the resistance against the rollers or sliders so it might be wise to do that first, then once it's right, and only if needed, change the weights or sliders for fine-tuning. I am only going up to 27s but they are much heavier then the stocks and ordered the 22s because of my needs and experience with other CVT systems. But now, after seeing and setting the secondary up just one setting higher, my gut says I may not need the new sliders and/or the 22s may be too much. I did find my stock rollers weights were anywhere between 25.01g and 25.16g. I know this doesn't sound like much but it actually is from a balance standpoint.. so I machined them enough to make them all 25.01grams. Because it will take a while to get the sliders from China, I think I'll try it with the balanced rollers and the secondary adjustment alone which is what you should do first anyway. The tires should be here any day now anyway.

I haven't confirmed that dr. Pulley HiT clutchs were made to fit the MC or the HL (what you have) clutch. If someone knows I can edit the OP. I would not recommend a roller weight less than 23g. You will start to see big losses in top end after that. Please read this article. It does a decent job of explaining how it all works. The only thing is with a wet clutch, it starts to turn first unlike the jog clutch he is describing. The principals still apply.

Thanks for the help guys. I know how the CVT works. I have experience with my Yamaha Grizzly.  I don't really care about top end. It's cool to say, "Yeah, I can do 70," but that's not important to me. I chose the ZForce V-twin over the Yamaha Wolverine single for low end torque for mud tires instead of top end. The engine has plenty of power, but the clutching is all wrong for deep mud. I'll loose a lot of top end with big heavy mud tires anyway. I want to gain as much low and mid range as possible.

I don't have any experience with an adjustable secondary spring. Does it really make a big difference, or is it more of a fine tune mechanism? I guess I'll give it a try as soon as I get time.

One more question. Does the CVT cover have a reusable gasket or do I need to get a new one before I start?
