CF MOTO 500 won't go faster than 40km/h
« on: May 09, 2021, 03:07:33 PM »
Hi!

I own, for about one year, a CF MOTO 500 made in 2014, I bought it second hand.
I bought the atv with the dashboard broken, thinking that some day I will replace the dashboard.

About 2 months ago I bought a dashboard from china, using the part no. written on the broken dashboard.
I replaced the broken dashboard with the new one, everything works properly except for one thing, the atv won't go faster than 40km/h, it is stalling, if I lower the gas to go under 40km/h, everything goes back to normal.
I clean the carburetor, spark plug, everything seems ok.

When I replaced back the broken dashboard, the atv runs fine with no problem, I could easily reach 70km/h in no time.
I know that the atv has two mechanical speed limiters, one in the carburetor and one in the throttle (that screw that limits the maximum speed), I remove them.

Does anybody know what is the issue?
It is possible that the dashboard have a speed limit? How do I remove it?

I attached a picture with the dashboard that I bought.

Any feedback is appreciated!
Thanks in advance! :D

That doesn't look like any CFMoto dash I have ever seen. Is it identical to the broken one? Yes, there are built-in RPM limiters in the ECU usually. One so it will not exceed like 7750 rpm, one for the reverse and one for the diff-loc in 4wd.

Ya, that dashboard is suspect. Check page 54/56 of the manual below to see what it should look like.

But I'm not certain. Checking Alpha-Sports, there are several analogue and LCD dashboard options:

Which part number are you using?

I see by the parts list they made several dash types, 2 ANALOGUE, one in KM/H and one in MPH. and 2 LCD or digital with the same difference. Some are not made any more...but some are.

Will it go faster if the limit override switch is held down?

Hi everyone!

Thank you very much for your help.

That doesn't look like any CFMoto dash I have ever seen. Is it identical to the broken one? Yes, there are built-in RPM limiters in the ECU usually. One so it will not exceed like 7750 rpm, one for the reverse and one for the diff-loc in 4wd.
Yes it is identical.

Ya, that dashboard is suspect. Check page 54/56 of the manual below to see what it should look like.

But I'm not certain. Checking Alpha-Sports, there are several analogue and LCD dashboard options:

https://alpha-sports.com/cfmoto_parts.htm?fpg=/cfmoto/2014/2014%20CF500-2(carb)/17.htm

Which part number are you using?
The part number is the same as the original one: 9010-170110

Will it go faster if the limit override switch is held down?
No.

Eventually I found that the dashboard comes with a limit on the speed of the ATV and my dashboard it was limited to 40 km/h (like a tractor).

I will have to find a solution to remove the speed limiter without affecting the good functioning of the dashboard or the ATV.

Thank you for your help!
